How old are your children? It's probably too late to change your parenting style now but if the children will be leaving home soon, you could probably salvage these relationships.

Not to be rude, but I thought Northerners were supposed to be the friendly half of the country!!0

People in villages can be very strange - they see anyone new as incomers and it sometimes takes years before they are accepted. Volunteering sometimes helps break down barriers.
Let your kids play in the garden - it is what back gardens are for, stuff the neighbours, maybe if they have loud parties and you work nights perhaps you should ask them to keep the noise down (well it is only fair when they have told your kids to be quiet).
Ignore them if they cannot be civil - they obviously have no manners.0 -

This. While the neighbours do not sound nice, it seems this family might have annoyed lots of people within days.
OP if you want to fit in, do you know anyone who you think would fit in if they lived there, who could be brutally honest with you regarding why your family does not endear itself to the neighbours?0 -
Are you seriously suggesting that allowing their children to play is somehow sabotaging their relationships with the villagers and they shoukd stop!
Yes I think she is. LOL.
It's the freaky villagers with the problem ; not the OP.
I may be a bit hasty saying leave. Maybe as a few have suggested, try and make some new friends first, and maybe join in with stuff.
That said though, it shouldn't have to be such a effort to be 'accepted' by people. FGS, who do these people think they are?!
If it was me, I would give it a year, and then leave. Life's too short!
And although some people in *some* villages can be a bit funny,; it's a generalisation to say all villagers are horrible and insular.
I moved into a suburb on the outskirts of a big town once, and the neighbours (mostly working 28-45 on average, with half a dozen or so stay at home mummies in their clique) were almost all miserable, grumpy and unfriendly. We stayed 5 years and never really made any friends. The adjoining neighbour only spoke when he wanted to whinge about something, and accused my niece (who was 9 at the time) of throwing fag ends over his fence! She was 9!!!
The place I am now which is much more like a large village is sooooo much friendlier.(•_•)

Are you serious? What did they do to annoy them?! They just have kids who were playing football and cycling etc. These people sound vile. They would have got a short shrift from me if I had been the OP!(•_•)

Money can't buy you class. These villagers of yours are best left to their rude little insular ways.0

These people sound horrendous!
OP, your children must be allowed to play in their own back garden.
I would be thinking of moving, too, if I were in your situation.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
