Daily thread 17th July 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Hi everyone!
I hope you'll forgive me for beginning the thread a bit early but I've been to bed but my mind's buzzing too much after all the travelling to sleep so I thought I'd pop on and say 'hello'.
Well, that was the strangest, but possibly one of the best holiday's I've ever had!
The downside was that the weather was rubbish and because it was so early in the season the campsite was deserted. The very worst bit was that Tim had a bad fall in the first week and broke two bones in his arm in a compound fracture (those of you who are squeamish look away now) we're talking bones through skin! _pale_
He had to have pins inserted in his bones so needed an operation, which was very frightening for all of us in a foreign country…but he's been a little star! He was so brave, even though he was in a lot of pain and thankfully he looks like he's well on the way to recovery. I felt so sorry for him not being able to go into the pool or the sea but he just seemed to cope with it all so well.
On the other hand Beth was fine at home and had no problems without us and also we got the chance to spend some time with HariboJunkie and her family in France…I have pics of her that I can use to blackmail her for the rest of her life!
The very best bit of the whole holiday was us as a family...the four of us spent real quality time together and it was wonderful….we talked, laughed, did daft things together and despite what had happened to Tim we all had so much fun! Tim's accident seemed to put things into perspective and I've come home in a different frame of mind where I value what I have.
Sorry for being so sentimental, anyway back to porridge now unfortunately...
Today will be spent unpacking, and washing. The garden looks like a jungle but I have peas, blackcurrants, cucumbers, and strawberries to pick! :j So, weather permitting I’ll spend some time out there.
I haven't had a chance to look through the last few week's threads yet, so I'm sorry if I've missed anything important. Best wishes to anyone who's had a birthday or celebration and hugs to anyone having a hard time at the moment.
It's lovely to be back and I hope you all have a good day. Off to catch up with all your news...

Oh my goodness Pink!!! ((((Huge hugs)))) to Tim, well done to him for being so brave and to you all for coping so well in what must have been a very, very frightening situation.
Welcome back Pink and Haribo, you've been missed
Peas, blackberries, cucumbers and strawberries? Nice one!
It's chucking it down here, and I got up especially early go go for a good fast walk before the daily grind gets started, yeah I know, I shouldn't be such a wimp, but I am
I set the BM going on a fastbake, planning to be back in time to get the loaf out before it got soggy, now it looks as if we may both be soggy.
Happy Tuesday everyone.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

WELCOME BACK PINK-WINGED! :hello: Wow, what a holiday you've had! Poor Tim - and you, of course; that must have been so worrying but I'm so glad it didn't stop you having a good time.
RACY RED - It's poured with rain all night here. I woke up twice because it was so noisy! It's still raining now and the only 'soggy' I intend to get is when I have my shower in a minute!
I am looking after my DGD this morning - her pre-school has finished for the holidays now apart from the end-of-term party on Thursday and, at half past three, I'll swap her over for her brother, so lots of girly things this morning and being thrashed at draughts this afternoon. He's seven years old and unbeatable now! He has also chosen to do his summer holiday project about the second world war which is all well and good because I have loads of information and books (even a proper ration book!) that he can have, but there are certain things we don't want him to know about yet, so I'm finding it quite hard sorting through my history books for suitable material for a seven year old. There are things he doesn't need to know yet. I'll have look at the wartime thread on here and try and get him to focus on the rationing and digging for victory, etc.
Dinner tonight will be cold chicken, salad and potatoes with bananas and kiwi fruit for pud. It's early to be thinking about that - I haven't had breakfast yet!
Well, must go because the kettle has just boiled for my second cuppa. I have to be organised early this morning because DH's 'new' 4x4 is going in for a service this morning, so I have to follow him down at 8 o'clock and then he'll have to use my car for the rest of the day.
Will call in later - have a great morning and (((hugs))) to QUEENIE - hope today is better for you than yesterday.:grouphug:

Good Morning to Pink, Racy, Amie and Moliere and the others who will follow!
Never thought I would be posting at this time of the morning, especially when on holiday!
I am in total agony! Can hardly move - I seem to have done something serious with the gardening yesterday. It seems to be centred would you believe on my breast bone and having trouble even breathing. I have just taken Ibuprofen so hope that helps to ease things off.
Pink - so glad you have had a good holiday but what happened to Tim - so sorry. He does (and you) seem to to be coping so well!
Having trouble getting my mind round tooth extraction (if I can manage to drive myself to dentist).
Hope you all have a good day.

GB - sounds like you've pulled a muscle but make sure you get it checked out if you're worried. Good luck with the dentist!
AMIE - Hi! Our posts must have crossed! I think it seems darker in the mornings because there's still a lot of rain up there! I've really missed the proper early mornings that we should be getting at this time of year - I keep forgetting it's supposed to be summer!

Morning. It's raining again..... I am feeling a bit like eeyore by comtinually annoucing the wet weather, but it seems summer has slipped by...
Work shortly. We have 2 new pets in the house since yesterday. My daughter won a goldfish at an agricultural show. It's living in a trifle bowl at the moment on the window sill. I have a tank, so I guess I will get some bravel and a small pump later today for her. Maybe some food too.
I did the classic trick last night, it was mean, but funny. I sliced a piece of carrot real thin and flopped it about in the water and ate it. Everyone thought I ate the goldfish:rotfl:
Then we also have a baby short tailed vole. It was found stranded on the public footpath all wet and cold. It seems to have come to life in a shoebox at home and eating so there is a good sign. It will go back to the wilds when it gets bigger. It's only about 3 cm long at present.
Thats the news from here.... greetings to you all. Off to Newquay for work soon ...Funny thing is the sun will probably be shining there. it seems to have a sunny micro climate.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Well i have been awake since 3 am since my darling lo decided it was time to wake up! he would not go back to sleep, he will be getting tired shortly! dh was not amused:rotfl:
Shopping today in afternoon, so be good to have the cupboards full again:D

What on earth do you give a vole to eat ? So glad it seems to have recovered.
Pain easing off a bit now prescription Ibuprofen seems to be kicking in. Will have a soaky bath soon and that will probably help too.
Enjoy your shopping Kyle - hope you are not too tired. Just noticed you only have 80 days to go till you go to Orlando!

Morning all the early risers, can't seem to give through the 6 o'clock barrier so here again.
((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) GB I know what pulled/torn muscles are like, my foot does not seem to be improving even though icing knee/ankle/foot daily, back to Osteopath tomorrow, and only just over a week to my hols.
((((((((Queenie))))))))))))))))))) hope the carp has swum away, and and its a doog day.
Camping in France Pink-Winged some of the nicest holidays we ever had, we used the ready-erected route, but the same effect. That is why we now have a touring caravan, decided the bones needed a little more comfort in their old age, but the camp site life and style of holiday was so relaxing, we took one hotel holiday when our DS was 18 months old and found it too restricting (thought I wanted to be fed, etc.,) and impersonal in comparison. Everone seems to speak when they pass each other.
Well DS came home last night, they (DS/GF/her DS + BF had a good time at our house, so just hope is it in one piece when we get there! Sure it will be.
Plans for the day, struggling now as not made any yet, let me think . . .
Wake up DS (by arrangement) at 7.30 am, get everything sorted with him so that he can start his dissertation improvement either later today or tomorrow. He needs to unpack, (that then makes washing!!) get hold of the Company who offered him a job to find out where the contract is!! Fill form in for Car Hire company in Spain as he had to swerve to avoid someong cutting him up on the way back to the airport and slightly scratched the underside skirt. Form in Spanish of course.
That's as far as I can get at the moment, so time for coffee, have a good day.
BTW - Wasn't summer that day back in April when I was out of the country?

Morning all
Pink, glad you had a good holiday despite your hospital visits.
Granny, if it doesn't get any better, call in to see your doctor, he may be able to prescribe something.
Well, looks like it might rain again today  I have checked the greenhouse, and I have baby cucumbers :j Managed to get some beetroot from the allotment, and steamed them for 45 mins, and they were delish
If it stays dry enough, I want to try to plant some carrots and more beetroot, but think I might be finding things to do indoors.
Not sure what's for dinner, will have a rummage in the freezer later.
Hope everyone has a good day xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever
