Feeling really down about something fairly trivial. WARNING LONG WHINEY RANT!

I think blonde is youthful Flossie, perhaps just an updated cut and some different shades ''streaked'' though
One thing I notice on ladies of a 'certain age', is hair colour - if a lady has hair all one colour (such as used a boxed home hair dye) that looks fake IMO
I see that Davina Mcall advertising those boxed hair dyes and know for sure she isnt using them on her money! lol
For hair, Multi - tones are definately the best, high lights or low lights (or whatever they are called lol) - just looks more natural
I recently introduced my 60 year old mum to blusher (I know shes got many years on you flossie) but that really made her look younger and vibrant, just a hint of a glow about her
Where is Gok Wan when we need him, he would have us all feeling great, and grabbing our boobies! The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
BTW I don't think being overweight is ageing. Fatter people often look younger and losing a lot of weight can make you look haggard.
This!
I think a bit of chub helps fill out the wrinkles, look at Fern Cotton and Dawn French who have both lost a lot of weight in their late 40's/ early50's and yes they both look great body wise, but both look so much older on the face.0 -
I went to the cinema with my mum a while back, and was given a senior citizen discount despite being nowhere near retirement age, so I feel your pain.
I too have always been taken as younger than my age so to suddenly be thought of as 20 years older came as a bit of a shock.
Personally I put it down to 17 year old cinema assistants thinking anyone over 30 has one foot in the grave.
(And the fact that I was seriously sleep deprived and had bags under my eyes larger than suitcases - a minor detail!)
In all seriousness, yes I'd probably look younger if I dyed my hair and used make up, but I can't actually be bothered in the morning. So if people take me as older than I am, so be it.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I have a similar problem, although I don't think I look old for my age (or I didn't until someone assumed my mother and I were sisters ) I wonder if it's because people get used to people in the public eye looking a certain way (with heavy makeup and/or Botox :rotfl:), many other people copying that look and then if you don't look that way then people assume you're older.
Grey hair also doesn't help - I'm lucky in that respect, but a friend of mine is quite grey and she looks a good 10 years older than me, even though we're the same age.0 -

Fearne Cottons only 32, don't remember her being overweight at all.
I know what you are saying ref Dawn French, she does definately look gauntThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Gosh you have some insensitive people around you Flossie!
I can relate a little to what you are saying, I'm 43 but look a fair bit younger, but over the last 2 years have noticed things starting to get a) grey, b) saggier or c) wrinklier!! And I don't like it one little bit.
I think changing my contraceptive pill from combined to the minipill had something to do with it - that's just my opinion and not based on any medical opinion, just the timing seems to coincide.
Do you wear make up? I second Hollydays advice above and would recommend going to a make up counter.
Weight - that can be lost.
Hair - that can be coloured and restyled.
Clothes - try something a bit more trendier or smart. If you like your leggings, there are lots of OOTD (outfit of the day) videos on youtube where you can see other women show what they are wearing (just type in OOTD leggings and you'll see what I mean).
Hope that helps a little?0 -

Fern Brittan, one from this morning, think the poster got the wrong Fearne.
Dawn French has put most of the weight she lost back on I think
OP, if you want to lose some weight, do it for you. Personally I think people should have their hair whatever way makes them happy, Im over 40, bobs look terrible on me.
I dont wear a lot of make up either. If you lose weight you'll probably feel better in yourself and that will show. Also, maybe have a think about getting a hair colour if you want to get one done at a local college, cheaper, they take time over it.
I was blonde for a long time, Im naturally blonde but I was blonder and I got sick of it, sick of maintaining it, so I had a lot of lowlights put in, back to my natural colour and some blonde at the top.
Dark hair wouldnt suit me, but there are many ways you can have blonde hair and still look fresh.0 -
oh god - you could have been me ten years ago - I went all out to 'look ten years younger again'! dyed my hair blonde, wore 'fashion clothes' didn't go out without my 'face' on..............and thought - 'why the hell am I taking so much time and spending so much, on my 'appearance', when I could be doing something much more interesting!
OK so I am sixty - I don't look like Helen Mirren or Victoria Principal - but I don't want to - Its far too much WORK!
besides - I am the same person inside no matter what I look like. If OTHER people have a problem with that, then that's their problem.
so yes I am back with leggings baggy Tshirts undyed greying hair - and I don't care!0 -
The only opinions that should matter are yours and maybe your husband's
To be honest with you, I'm 31, think I have an alright figure and don't scrub up too badly if I do say so myself but I can't remember the last time my hubby told me he loved me or that I was gorgeous.
I'd love to have hubby say something along those lines to me so I think you are lucky in that respect. Also why would you say that "he would say that"? Not sure about your hubby but mine never says things he doesn't mean - maybe that's why he hasn't told me I'm gorgeous in about 2 years - having a baby certainly changes things!!0 -
Why not have a look at those 10 years younger programs and see if you pick up any suggestions from the type of hair cuts or outfits that are shown?Debt Free - done
