  • Oh Kate, you don't fancy coming to not so sunny Wales & sorting out my bedroom do you?! I have been trying to get it looking like a show home room for ages but so much stuff & not enough time at the moment! :rotfl:

    My positives for yesterday are

    1. Got a lot of work done again & some big jobs out of the way, which means I can get some of the bigger jobs done that were just waiting.
    2. Got some of my holiday shopping sorted.
    3. Had half an hour of my youngest daughter just cuddled in to me quietly, telling me what she'd been doing at Nanny's and her general outlook on life makes me laugh.

    Positives for Wednesday and Thursday (quickie as the pool is calling!);

    1. I went for a girl's night out on Wednesday and ate the best mushroom risotto ever created! My friend had a 50% discount voucher so the whole 2 course meal plus wine (1 large and 2 small bottles!) cost just 30 euro.

    2. I swam 30 lengths in anticipation of the meal out!

    3. Too hung over to eat on Thursday, I lived on a banana for most of the day so balanced out some of the previous night's wine!

    4.It was my Dad's 76th birthday yesterday and my parent's 44th wedding anniversary today so I took them to Anavargos for a lovely meal. I stuck to sea bass and salad with good intentions but then caved to chips and pavlova (not together!!) but I don't care 'cos I'm on holiday!!

    5. I'm reading 'Divergent' and don't care that it's a teen novel!

    6. dS1 has been offered and accepted an accounts assistant apprenticeship. This means he will defer his third year at uni but I'm looking at it positively. Either he'll gain experience in a field he later makes his career in or he'll realise that he needs to complete his degree and the forthcoming year will give him some work experience and time to focus on what he really wants to do with his life.

    Have a positive day folks. I'm off to apply sunscreen :)

    Erm...think I'll pass, I'm still physically paying for clearing out mine and already the kids are sneaking stuff in! Busy again yesterday, after getting very stressed out watching kids opening their A-level results DD1 and I spent the day working on her uni application ready for 2016. So here's my positives for yesterday:

    1. Received some fantastic advice on the jobs and working board for DD1, all of which she acted upon and she's very motivated, enthusiastic and happy.
    2. Booked 4 open days so road trips planned to Bristol, Nottingham, Liverpool and Glasgow and as all except Glasgow are before DS1 turns 16 (there's less than a year between them) the three of us will go so I can use the railcard discount :D
    3. Decided to make a weekend of it for Glasgow (I've never been) and found a hotel for £19! And it's the weekend after DD1's 17th.
    4. DH worked away so I had an early night and utilised as much of the bed as possible (sleeping like a starfish ;)) until he got back around 1am.

  • Sounds exactly like my bedroom Kate. I give it a good clearout & within a few hours I've got teddies, books or whatever else our youngest decides to bring it. Loom bands are driving me mad at the moment! Everywhere I go in my house I find them.

    Hope you are not aching for too long. You should take it easy for a few days so as not to scupper any positive recovery you've been having lately.

    What a great price for the hotel. That's fab, I am useless at finding cheap hotels because I always leave things too late if we are going somewhere.

    My positives for yesterday are

    1. Enjoyed a nice family dinner for somebody's birthday.
    2. Got a few more things sorted ready for our holiday in a few weeks.
    3. Heard from my uncle who has been poorly lately but he's feeling a little better so I'll hopefully go see him soon.

  • Happy Friday evening all!

    I am officially shattered after the busiest week at work but pulling out the happy bits!

    * It's the weekend, and I am not working (first time in 4 weeks I have not worked a 6 day week!!)
    * I have booked my annual leave for our May 2015 holiday, nothing booked yet but officially the first thing organised!!
    * I had a NSD
    * I have a nice (but busy) weekend planned, seeing family and attending the local 'Fairy Festival', tickets paid for so free for the weekend!!

    Hope everyone is well

    Hi everyone,

    Sorry I haven't posted for a couple of days. I have been reading though.... Loving all of these positive vibes.. Although I am slightly jealous of Nimtuds references to going to the pool! Positives for the last few days are;

    1) still taking the stairs at work and it is getting easier. I don't resemble a steam engine quite as much as I did before when I reach the top.
    2) my project is going well at work
    3) a manageable number of small interesting projects have hit my inbox
    4) next doors cat came in for a cuddle :-)

    Oh and

    Its the weekend :j :j looking forward to a lie in and a bit of R&R
  • Hi all, I'm fashionably late again ;)

    But here's Friday's...

    1. I gave blood. Absolutely no problem, I was only out the house a little over an hour (including 15 minute drive each way) and despite feeling a bit weak after I feel fantastic.
    2. There was a beautiful rainbow as the sun shine through a downpour (reminded me of this thread)
    3. I watched a couple of 80s movies I'd never seen in my youth. They weren't great but it reminded me of the simpler times of my youth
    4. DS1 cleaned the kitchen for me while I was out. He's very attentive so I now have a show home kitchen too :D
    5. I explained why I gave blood and got lots of cuddles from my children and a quite sensible discussion about illness. Not a nice chat, especially as they're so young, but it was good to have.

    TWO biscuits and there were crisps too ;) it was really quick and everyone was efficient and lovely. Just make sure you eat and drink plenty before you go. I felt a bit weak and tired a few hours later (once the euphoria of actually doing it wore off) but the teens made me tea and I had a lovely few hours with my cheesy movies. I've already booked to go back in December (women have to leave 16 weeks between donations).

    With debt hanging around my neck I can't give financially but this way I feel like I'm helping somebody somewhere and all it cost was the travel and an hour of my day. AND I got a let up from the constant feeling of guilt that comes with debt :)

    ETA: just be warned I am ravenous today! I rarely wake up hungry - breakfast is a habit for me not a necessity - but hunger woke me up and I could eat anything that doesn't move quick enough to escape me this morning!

  • Kate - It almost makes me excited to go be a donor! I agree with you, it seems hard to donate cash, and at times time when we are all so busy fighting money and a work life balance but it is such an important thing for so many people! My appointment is late, I think 6pm off the top of my head so am hoping the OH (who will have returned to the same country as me by then) will drop me off and maybe purchase some chips for tea so we don't have to cook!!

    As I'm here, have some positivity:
    * Out of bed at a sensible time means that, by 1pm, I have done all my cleaning, a load of laundry, and have just had my lunch!
    * I have just found the 5 missing window lock keys that my OH had 'tidied' away before he left, leaving me to move one key between windows!! :rotfl:
    * Having been so productive, have thrown out 7 bin bags (genuine rubbish, nothing the charity shop would appreciate) - I have to do all my throwing away when OH isn't here as he is the worst hoarder in the world, and I love minimalism... we have a good balance in the house but I throw things out when I know he won't need / use them again!!
    * Am going out soon to see my grandparents for their anniversary, this year is their 63rd anniversary, which is beautiful! Unfortunately, my grandfather has late stage dementia and late stage cancer so we are spending as much time together, and he is having a good day today so hopefully he will understand and enjoy the evening with the family.
    * Before that, am just looking for some ideas for my mum's 60th birthday which is next April, we are thinking of a nice private function dinner somewhere. My brother doesn't feel the need to think about this more than a week before her birthday, but I want to get something at least provisionally booked in to people's diaries!!

    Happy Saturday x
