    Hi,

I currently live in my own council flat and my girlfriend lives in her flat with our 6 week old son. I am starting part time work ( 16-20 hours a week). and want to know if we as a family are better off living apart or together. she has a claim in for child benefit and is about to send off the form for child tax credit. she also recieves income support with a incapacity benefit top up totalling about £125 a week plus child benefit of £18.10 when it come through. I will be earning between £85 and £113 a week.

Would I be able to claim Working Tax Credit only working 16-20 hours a week

We are concerned about rent & Council tax costs if we live together.

    Any help is much appreciated

    C & A

right back to the OP. as a couple :

min wage if £5.35 so lets say you are on that weekly for 16 hours a week = £85.60 a week earnings. certainly very little if any tax to pay.

    child benefit = £18.10

child tax credit - perhaps about say £21 a week for an under one (just going by what mine was when chops was under a year old)

working tax credit - lets put this at £30 (you might get more but i dont want to guess at that)

incapacity benefit - £125 (she wont lose this but will lose the IS part of it)

total household income per week - £279.70 per week.

now you could possibly still qualify for HB and CTB as a couple. or afford to pay your own way.

just going by my rent and ctax per week (council rent) it comes to £110.66 per week which would leave £169.04 per week to spend on essentials etc.

essentials are not cable or sky tv, not expensive mobile phone contracts, not the internet, etc and you can also make savings by visiting the savings boards and such others on here.

but personally id rather, given your temper, that you didnt live with them for their sakes.

but, it is possible to live on what the approximated household income would be.
There's someone in my head, but it's not me

I sometimes feel that people post here to sort of rub our noses in what our taxes are spent on. Wonder how many of the OP's 'fan club' are working tax payers struggling to keep their heads above water? Not many I bet.

I am one of those taxpayers and I for one am glad my money is there to support families like craigs even if the rest of you arent because honestly that is what I believe it is for everybody reacts to bereavement differently and tbh he only posted those details because they were dragged out of him by someone pushing for answers he owes no one here anything and I am glad he managed to get some decent advice how many of those people posting against him have ever needed this countrys welfare system to support them ?
Not many I bet because if you had you wouldn't look down your noses at others as much as you have done.
Craigs character has been ripped to bits here and there is no need for any of it he asked a simple question expected a simple answer and got 7 pages of mostly abuse.
Have I also ripped the system because I have just had 26weeks paid maternity leave sat on my but doing nothing lets not forget in your day you got six weeks and that was it

But Craigs family isn't a family.
His child lives with his mother as a single parent family & Craig live as a single man who visits them. They do not live as a family. But more like a seperated or divorced couple.
  • I don't care why he wants to live alone.

so basically your saying you dont care if his partner or child gets abused if he went to go live with them while his anger isnt under control.

what a heartless b******d you are. at the end of the day a young woman and a babys safety come first and alway will no matter what.

i'm guessing your not a parent youself as you wouldnt be like this if you were.a child is the most precious thing in the world and should be protected and treasured in whatever way possible. i guess if you do have kids you dont have this view.

We wouldnt be having a go if he didnt take up 2 council houses. If he actually wanted to help himself and his family we wouldnt be having a go. Oh yer, and another thing, we wouldnt be having a go if he was going to work full time to keep his family. Oh god theres more, yer, we wouldnt be having a go if he wasnt saying 'I dont want to work like the rest of you I want to see my kid so I want your money instead'.

I can't believe as a tax payer your letting him and actively encouraging him to rip you off quite so much.

Bereavement of a father when he's 31 years old?!? Thats an excuse for all this is it?! Damn, well why hadn't everyone else used it!? Everyone else gets a couple of days of work if that. Of course craig should have 2 council houses, 2 council tax's paid, 2 rents paid etc etc etc because hes violent and he lost his dad (which we all do).

No one wants to lose a dad and it's painful for ALL of us.

    Thanks :)

But no, I'm not saying that. But you can't quite seem to grasp that he doesnt go to work to spend the maximum time with them. Which bit of that do you not understand!??

Hes protecting the kid as hes violent by spending as much time as he can, and for that, he can't go to work!? And he also needs a seperate house to spend all that time with his kid!?

Seems he only can't control his anger when he lives with them!? But spending all his time with them and living as a seperated couple while he has 2 benefit incomes so that hes financially better off than a working couple and he's able to control his anger.

What really has he got to be angry about?! All the time in the world. Don't have to do a thing. Has 2 houses. Has a women that sticks by him even though he can't control himself and a baby. Oh yer, and all the money just deposited in his bank account like a gift from the gods.

If hes really concerned, why is he visiting them and spending as much time with them when he don't know when he's going to go off on one!?

    Yer...ok.

What a ridiculous post. It is up to the child's mother to protect herself and her child. She doesn't appear to have any qualms about the living together bit. Neither actually did Craig until it appeared he might be financially worse off so brought this red herring into the equation.

Unlike Graham I DO have children, they are my most treasured possessions (although they are not possessions if you understand me). I would have killed anyone who threatened them including their father. Not that he ever did but you get my drift.I certainly wouldn't have considered living with him.
