I would love to send a link of this thread to Gordon Brown and whoever's the minister in charge of the DSS.
Have emailed a copy to my MP as useful reading ... it won't make any difference, but I think it's useful to see how shameful people want to play the system and take from those really in need, just because they can't be @rsed.
AS GD & others have said, most of the time, I can't be bothered to get up at 6 in the morning or work till 8pm on boring mind numbing stuff, but I do because I have no choice ~ good to know that there are other options for others"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
some holier than thou person mentioned that i would only be working 16 hours self employed, thats not true, i was going to work 16hrs for another company(PAY TAX AND NI). and then use the rest of the time with my son and establishing my business. I dont see whats wrong about this at all....0

Do we not all make judgements on the available information every day of our lives? Shall I cross the road now, no there is a car coming and I will get run over - I have made a judgement.
Someone lets the shop door go so it hits a young woman with a child, I make the judgement that it was a rude uncaring person that let the door go.
'Judgemental' appears to be the new racist as far as insults go. Daft I call it.
Of course we make the kind of judgements that you mention in your post.
I'm talking about making assumptions about people when we don't know the whole story.
From the OP's initial post we did not know why they were living apart (he didn't explain until later), so it was in that case wrong for people to judge that he was just being a benefit scrounger.
Another example, my husband and I sleep in separate beds. People might assume that this is because we hate each other. Nothing could be further from the truth, it is due to a medical condition.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

How much TAX & NI would you be paying on your 16 hour job then?
Less than you claim back in.......
Working tax credits
Child tax credits
Child benefit
Council tax benefit X TWO
Rent benefit X TWO
& some sort of invalididty benefit mentioned in the first post.
If you find proper hours to taxing (get the pun) I suggest you forget being self employed, as self employed people tend to work longer hours than PAYE wokers.
My husband is self employed, its Sunday & hes working (his 7th day in a row), it would be nice to have more "family time" as you do, but hey someones gotta pay to keep the benefits gravy train going.0 -

You are a mother with a young son to care for, the OP is a man living on his own.0 -

This is an internet forum for heavens sake. The OP gave us a set of circumstances and was quite categorically asking how to maximise the benefits for him, his partner and child. Because he then tries to backtrack and say he has problems with his temper which is why they live separately you have decided that this makes it fine and dandy for this little family to grab as much as possible. I CAN judge, why shouldn't I? This is MY money he is spending. On a forum like this we will never know all the facts about anyone, just what they choose to tell us. We all make judgements on probabilities, don't need every fact.0 -

i dont see how someone who lives on their own only needs to work 16 hours a week, if i didnt have aston i'd be working full time!:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

The holier than thou person was me.
You have so far contradicted yourself in so many ways that I think your now shutting up for your own good, which would be a wise move. As someone has already stated, they have sent this to their MP. Can you not get it into your head that what you are doing is frankly disgusting and downright illegal?
We are all obviously wrong though and you are right.
1. You can spend more time with your son by living together. But you won't do that because your violent. But then you say your working part time to spend time with your son...but you can't control your anger....which one is it? Are you violent or not? You are trying to tell us you can't live with them because of your anger, but you want to spend as much possible time with them.
2. Why not work full time and set up your business? I had to? You also realise that you need to register as self employed when you start your company and you will have to start filling in self assesment forms, for which high fines and jail sentences apply. Yet you want to remain on benefits while you do this. Your going to need a good accountant cus it's gonna be extremely difficult to juggle all that.
You don't see whats wrong with it. About 15 posters do. Are you not starting to get the hint?
Are you violent or not? Yes or no? You can't state you can't live with them cus of your violence and anger, and in the same sentence say you spend as much possible time with them.
Its pure benefit fraud. Your backtracking, making up things and 'I'm violent if I live with them but not if I spend 16 hours a week from them, but I can't work full time cus I dont want to' proves this. I'm helping you here, if you get reported YOU will end up in prison. How you gonna spend time with your son then?
Best thing you can do is get a bit of self respect...then you might start respecting others in society and not taking the pee out of them.0 -
GD i think your just trying to up your post count
