But even with this vagary about what the result might be, its still better not to sign it ?

    Yes. Most definitely.

    Especially if:

    - there is any doubt about the accuracy of the form's contents

    - or if the offence is disputed

    - or if PACE and other rules have not been obeyed

And I agree with Bob's advice above, too.

thanks, we have a licence, but am thinking of getting rid of it, simply because we are getting much better value from dvdrental+streaming than from the tv licence :-(

Sounds good. And you are doing the right thing by finding out how it works, rather than going into it unaware.
  • Bear in mind FidgitsID, without a licence you must not watch/record ANY live broadcasts, irrespective of quantity, channel or delivery method.

yes thats fine, we dont like sport/reality/soaps/celebritythis&that/royal stuff & get better news from local paper & weather from met office site, so not much left on tv for us nowadays.

Yet another licence fee thread that gains hundreds of responses within a couple of days.

Perhaps MSE should consider a whole forum devoted to the Licence Fee, it would certainly get some traffic!:D

You cannot be sent to prison for LF evasion.

The only time you can go to prison, in relation to LF evasion, is if you don't pay the fine.

I beg to differ there is a real threat I know Agreed mainly if the fine isn't paid
As I said Unlike any other business the BBC/TVL have a lot more power AND they use it as mentioned above
As the license fee is paid in the main to produce NEW programmes O and pay fat cat wages lol
Then may be we should all demand a refund for every repeat they show
Even that has got considerably worse lately
Used to be repeats only after a number of years Now it seems in many cases it's a few months

    You bet it will lol
Mind you it would keep it a lot smaller if the contributors stuck to the main point of the thread
In case you haven't gone to the begging I'm the one that started it :-)

No, not MAINLY if the fine isn't paid. ONLY if the fine isn't paid. You can't be sent to prison for non-payment of the licence fee.

If you're so unhappy with the service provided why not go LLF instead?
