Only when you've voluntarily signed a confession.
Hoilovoo
What ever you say on here makes no difference I did NOT voluntarily sign the form I HAD to to avoid prosecution
As to cancelling the so called Crime I again am speaking from EXPERIENCE The visit and signed form happened very soon after I moved in And I then started paying so the threat of conviction was canceled
The court appearance was shortly after I moved into a property 5 years ago after a very bad period in my life
In that instance I was doing what others say they do on here BINNED them BUT as in Murphys partners case I ended up with a court visit Fine AND had to take out a licence IMMEDIATELY to avoid potentially a short jail sentence BEFORE anyone ridicules this post it is FACT not fiction0 -

If you don't agree with those terms, you have 2 legal options.
1. Pay in full, annually.
2. Stop paying and go Legally Licence Free.
Or pay quarterly, and include a small additional admin fee.0 -

I can't go " legally licence free " as I watch and record tv and I admit to it unlike I'm sure most if not all posting on here do

More misinformation.
That certainly USED to be true but it is NOT TRUE any more. You should really keep up to date on the legal situation before making statements as fact. Why ? its perfectly normal to pay for lots of things in advance.
That's true, but not quite in the way the monthly payment to TVL works. Kayak10 is objecting to the fact that you start paying for next years licence when you're only half way through the current year.
ie you're not just paying upfront on day one, but you're starting to be charged six months before the first payment for next year is even due.
For example, you don't pay your car insurance six months before the start date of the policy, even if you're paying your 12 months up front.
Frankly, it's something I would struggle to get so excited over.0 -

I don't know when you think that changed I certainly HAD to give my details approx three years ago
AND I will look later but I'm sure that info is on TVL web site0 -

Can I add a potentially useful fact?
TVL/BBC only prosecute half of the offenders they "catch" evading the licence. I asked them what their criteria were for this act of largesse, but they wouldn't tell me. I think we can safely assume that people who buy a licence are less likely to be prosecuted than those who don't.
Therefore, when Murphy's OH was prosecuted, it's possible TVL intended to prosecute even though a licence was purchased, or that they wouldn't have prosecuted but for their poor database practices (ie. they didn't stop the prosecution because the new licence was in a different name). We will never know for sure.
What's certain is that assuming the Summons was received by Murphy's OH in good time to attend Court, there is no basis on which to petition the Court now to reopen the matter. It is done. There is/was a 21 day window during which the size of the fine could have been appealed. Sounds like that's gone, too.
Once again, there is no substitute for understanding the rules.0 -
I don't know when you think that changed
http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/business-and-organisations/tv-dealers-aud18?WT.mc_id=r033&x=0The Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1967 (as amended) has been repealed, meaning that from 25 June 2013 onwards you no longer need to send us customer name and address details when you sell or rent out TV equipment. This also means your business no longer has to keep sales records to comply with the law on TV Licensing. If you don’t need these records for anything else you can destroy them from 25 June.I certainly HAD to give my details approx three years ago
AND I will look later but I'm sure that info is on TVL web site0
