In all my time on Ebay, i have never needed to return anything - just my luck its happened when i use the voucher.

Bought a ' brand new ' digital item. Turns out they just kept the box and put in back in - making it 'new'.

Digital history shows a years use

Well overpaid - and i cannot use it as a gift as planned - BUT i got £20 off via Ebay. This made it someone nearer true value. But i feel ripped off.

If i return it - anyone know if i then lose the £20?

The question is, did you list it as New or Used? hmmmmm?

I asked about it on twitter and got a different reason again: "In certain circumstances we have issued coupons to those members who we believe were most affected by the password issue."

Used lol. Thats the daft thing - it still showed a slight profit for me.

Best to be honest in the first place.

Does that mean those of us who got money will soon be finding out they have become a victim of identity theft, thanks to Ebay - and no compensation will be payable - as we have accepted this pay off?

Someone tripped in a pub other day on an item that should not have been there - and landlord quickly gave them a free pint.

He then nursed his possibly broken wrist while talking compo. But surely the pint was his payoff?

Considering everyone was affected by it I'm curious as to how some can be more affected than others by the same thing. Surely it should go on facts not a belief of who was most affected as well.

Possibly. Although as all were affected and not all paid off does that mean we could all get a lot of compo in such a situation? I mean, technically there'd be a good case for it as they can't deny it happening or sending out vouchers to some (regardless of what they now say there are plenty of copies of the emails online saying it was for that issue).

They got other information that could be used.
"The database... included eBay customers' name, encrypted password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth," it said.

If they have that information, or even one or two of them, there's various things they could do with that.

Plus how many use the same password on other sites and haven't thought to change their password on them sites too?

OK, I didn't realise they got the DOB. All the other stuff (bar password which everyone should have changed by now) you give away to strangers when you buy or sell something on eBay anyway.
