Really? You want the government to run your life for you? No wonder we have a nanny state.

How is it wrong to want smoking in homes where children are, to be banned?

Because you are talking about handing over responsibility for your life and decisions to the government. What about banning drinking? Junk food? Eating salt & sugar? Watching too much TV? Anything else someone else decides isn't good for you? Make the decisions yourself and take responsibility for your own actions.

Smoking can set off asthma attacks, which for some, can be fatal.

Lol - perhaps we should start to ban things like Heroin, crack etc., first?

Many of us thrived in tobacco filled homes, but from my years in child protection, no child ever thrived in a 'hard drugs' home....

Her's an example of the media power, my mum was a child of the 50's, part of an underground free press denigrating apartheid, racism sexism etc in the 60's and 70's.
Railed against the racism that came about when there was a large influx of Asians into our town in the 70's.
She started getting the Daily Mail a few years ago, only a Saturday purely for the good t.v guide.
She inevitably started reading the paper itself.
Well some of her views now are so right wing we cannot even discuss immigration, benefits etc without it turning into a row.
She actually told me she didn't like to go into the second hand shops anymore because of the amount of eastern europeans in there, as you 'just don't know what they are going to do'
    Errr do their shopping.
Well she replies, according to the Daily Mail they are all expert pick pockets.
    Words failed me.

Know how you feel, I have a son the same......but he is living abroad, so has no right to vote lol:T

These programmes never seem to show people on the dole who dont have the large family and people demanding more and more.
If they did, then they wouldn't get the viewing figures in.
A while ago my business partner and I did a stint on DIY SOS, when we saw the final cut it was only then we realised just how much of it is contrived for TV in order to pull the viewing figures up.

Why not just ban tobacco altogether?
I'll tell you why, because if they did then the government would lose £11 billion per annum in duty alone!

Now the government isn't going to let that slide by, so that means they have to find another way to make the cash and that means an increase in taxes.
How many non smokers will be happy to see their taxes rise by another 10% or so to make up for the shortcoming?

You could be right, but compared to the effects on a hard drugs home (parental neglect, the fix coming first etc.,) it's still down the sliding scale, of parental shortcomings...

Asthma comes about for a variety of reasons - mine from legionnaires disease..

Do you truly think that people who are willing to smoke in their homes with children about would take notice of a ban?
We have to accept there are always going to be stupid people making stupid decisions but we cannot allow the government to control every aspect of our lives.
We have to trust that the majority of people will make the right choices and feel sorry for those who don't instead of hating them.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Unfortunately I think you would be very surprised, I see facebook posts from supposedly intelligent, professional people echoing these sentiments.

Have to agree with this. Some of the filth that appears on my wall from so-called intelligent people regarding these types of programs is shocking. One week they are complaining about the EDL and their mob-type behaviour, then the next they are agreeing with each other saying they wish they could 'get rid' of everyone on the dole.

Ah, well that's where we differ
It doesn't surprise me that you see things like that on Facebook.
