These programmes never seem to show people on the dole who dont have the large family and people demanding more and more. When I was on the dole it was a miserable experience, couldnt wait to get off it and I had nil money to spare. Its probably like that for a good number of people, but that doesnt make tabloid headlines or tv programmes.

The last episode did exactly that - a single person in a houseshare who had to scrounge off his flatmate for food, some friends house-sharing, a couple with a kid, all showing the impact of benefit changes or sanctions.

It's wonderful for the government, because despite the facts that these families are a small minority, it suits their purpose to portray anyone on ANY sort of benefits (including those working, getting TC top ups, which the government regard them as handouts) as scroungers and failures.

And, people buy into it lol :wall:

    Lin
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Yet another divide and conquer programme, make out to the tax payers that every person on the dole is living the high life, is devoid of morals and is laughing at hard working people whilst they sit in their paid for houses watching jeremy kyle on their massive t.v's whilst smoking fags.
Whilst this is certainly true of some, this is not the standard and we should not allow ourselves to be manipulated into hatred of those less fortunate than ourselves.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Watch Bowling for Columbine- it explores how & why the American Hovt and TV channels are controlling the viewing public, and I feel it has some relevance here, especially when you look at programmes like this.

I credit most viewers with the intelligence to realise that these people represent a very small minority.
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Unfortunately I think you would be very surprised, I see facebook posts from supposedly intelligent, professional people echoing these sentiments.

I missed this. And it seems as though I didn't miss much and it's the same rubbish again and again.

Have to agree with this. Some of the filth that appears on my wall from so-called intelligent people regarding these types of programs is shocking. One week they are complaining about the EDL and their mob-type behaviour, then the next they are agreeing with each other saying they wish they could 'get rid' of everyone on the dole.

I like watching them myself as it gets me and OH into a good debate.

Her's an example of the media power, my mum was a child of the 50's, part of an underground free press denigrating apartheid, racism sexism etc in the 60's and 70's.
Railed against the racism that came about when there was a large influx of Asians into our town in the 70's.
She started getting the Daily Mail a few years ago, only a Saturday purely for the good t.v guide.
She inevitably started reading the paper itself.
Well some of her views now are so right wing we cannot even discuss immigration, benefits etc without it turning into a row.
She actually told me she didn't like to go into the second hand shops anymore because of the amount of eastern europeans in there, as you 'just don't know what they are going to do'
    Errr do their shopping.
Well she replies, according to the Daily Mail they are all expert pick pockets.
    Words failed me.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Smoking should be illegal in homes were there are children living, no idea how they would enforce it but!!!!!!

Really? You want the government to run your life for you? No wonder we have a nanny state.
