I dont have a joint account because third hubby has bad credit, i already owned my house and had two kids when i met and married him, i pay all the bills and he gives me a lump sum every month towards them. i'm on £20,000 less than him, although i get maintenance and child benefit.
If i work overtime i use it to pay for christmas/birthdays for my kids, and he uses his money for holidays, anything largish that we need and his kids christmas presents etc.
He can't go on my mortgage because we will be financially linked, and it would ruin my good credit. I'm changing my will with his agreement(he doesn't want my house) to leave it to my kids but he can stay in house until he dies. I don't particularly want his kids to get any of my house.
It sounds callous, but after two previous husbands, i'm looking after me and my kids interest first. The older i get, the less trusting i become!!0 -
We've had a joint account since day one (19 years now)
I manage all the money and hubby gets the same amount of "pocket money" as me, but he has to buy his e-lite cigarettes out of his money. I gave up smoking!
We don't do much overtime, but any that is done, just carries straight into the pot.
Everything we own, including the house is our, split straight down the middle.
Friends of mine are quite old fashioned, he earns far more than her. He pays the mortgage and she pays some of the bills, he keeps loads for himself. She says it works for them, then she asked me to look at their mortgage payments.....it's a Northern Rock 125% mortgage, and they've been paying interest only for at least 7 years.
He organised the mortgage, she was desperate to move, and just signed where he told her to.
Amazingly she thought that they would be leaving the house to their son, and even though i explained the implications, she just shrugged and said "something will turn up":eek:Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.
Looking forward to early retirement.0 -
just a quick update, we have discussed this and have now opened a joint savings account where any extra money either party earns is paid in to. We then decide what to spend it on together.0
