Yeah, but you haven't been listening to the advice and rudely calling posters salesmen. It appears to me you have already made your mind up.

Go buy your ancient e71 and let us know how your getting on after dismissing the advice you have been given. TBH I dont know why you posted if you weren't willing to listen.

How very rude, where I have been given constructive advice, I have thanked them (please see above), where in those posts did I prove I wasn't ready to listen ? Just because I picked out one post who seemed to be pointing to a particular eBay item for sale ? I have already apologised for that above, do you want me to grovel ? As for the comment :

"Go buy your ancient e71 and let us know how your getting on after dismissing the advice you have been given."

What a condescending thing to say, not everyone is loaded with money or even wants to spend a fortune on an item they consider to be a luxury over and above their normal bills and which is needed only for texting, rather than all the rings and bells of more upmarket models. Ever heard the saying "each to his own". Well you might bear that in mind. Also, as I have said (3 times now), I have welcomed advice but you obviously don't read all the posts, just pick out "particular" ones to reply to. Ringo in particular gave very sound advice without being judgmental as to my budget which I was grateful for and everyone else who similarly offered constructive advice. What I don't need is someone to tell me I am a cheap skate as in your comment "Go buy your ancient e71" who only wants to pay buttons for something I rarely use !
  • My job is about non-judgementally finding a client's requirements and figuring out a solution to it..

Personally, I'd like the OP to try out one of the more basic window's phones as I do feel you get a lot for your money, in a very simple to use operating system. Android is going to be far too complex, and iOS is too expensive. Blackberry is nearly bankrupt so I wouldn't suggest one of their phones either.

OP would probably find the touch screen ok after a little bit of use, and a phone like the Nokia Lumia 520 would be great (and only £59 Sim-only new).. but if OP wants a keyboard, then that's what you aim to find. There is very little in the market place as the modern OS's don't require physical keyboards.

The Asha phones are the only ones I could find that supported basic apps and had a physical keyboard. Yup, no 3G, but the OP never said they wanted to surf the net on the phone either.

Absolutely correct, I don't want to surf the net on the phone, I already have my computer and as I am retired am on it most of the time (as you have probably noticed from my replies).

I will take your advice and look at the Nokia Lumia 520 too when I pop into the phone shops. As you say, I just need something which is (I guess) going to be fairly chunky but again that doesn't bother me, as anyone will tell you who has arthritis, very often more chunky keys are easier for someone like me to use. Touch screens are ok (I have a sat nav obviously which is touch screen and in the car that is great). I just need a phone which is texting friendly so decent sized letter keys, able to use the free texting apps and user friendly overall without all the gizmos.

Not a lot to ask for I thought !:)

These second hand phone shops are everywhere ! Plenty of second hand shops to purchase phones in the area where I live where I can return them if I am not happy
Good luck with this rolleyes.gif - unless the phone is faulty.
, why should I risk buying one off eBay where I would pay postage of £4 or £5 to buy and if i were not happy another £4 or £5 to return?
Neither can you return here - just because you "aren't happy" - unless the seller explicitly allows returns.
Also the prices in the eBay shops are not that cheap, or at least similar to second hand shop bought ones so unless a private sale on eBay, are approx. £50-£60 and I can get one for that in a local shop with no inconvenience to me.
I CBA to argue, but normally you can find an identical phone cheaper on ebay.

You may be right, I rarely buy things I can't return, what is the point? Even Asda allows you to return food in some of their ranges if you have bought the wrong thing, even after you have eaten them ! I was told that last week when buying something I was not sure about was right and they told me to return it if I found it was not what I wanted - the item cost me £1 !!!!

If I find they are either too expensive or no chance to return if not happy, I might end up buying on eBay but there is no guarantee then when many items for sale are on "No returns accepted" basis, so if I am going to spend £40 or £50 or even more, I don't want to end up with a load of rubbish that I can not only not use but can't sell on either or return ! eBay is full of counterfeit items too as I have found to my cost ! As an OAP living on a reduced state pension, I can't afford to throw away £50 away which is nearly half my weekly income. :(

    How very rude..<snip>

Do you think that it is just coincidence that two posters in a row have condemned you for being rude?

If you go back to my post, you will see that there are three links. Not all from the same seller.

If any of your local second shops offer any of the same phones in my link at a similar price, then you should certainly consider them.

The OP asked for a Qwerty keyboard...
I would prefer a qwerty keyboard as it is faster. I find other mobile phones very frustrating and laborious to use. I was a typist all my life so am used to a qwerty keyboard, so I would like if possible to get one of those. Blackberry seem to be the only ones that offer this but many are expensive.

So I looked for a Blackberry within the budget for the Asha 210. From £40 to £50. Not just that, but created direct links for the OP in order for them to see what they could get for their budget.

So certainly no judgements made, perhaps unlike the other poster who claims that they make no judgements.

Does that read as impartial and non-judgemental??

At the end of the day, it's your money, but you are clearly not endearing yourself to anyone with your apparent rudeness and ingratitude.

I spent half an hour of my time looking for half decent Blackberry phones within your budget.

Thanks for the time you have spent looking for me and I see now that I probably jumped the gun at calling you a salesman, my fault.
I am now armed with plenty of info to make a decision, thanks for the suggestions. I find posting on forums leads people to say things they would not say or mean if hearing it spoken one to one, it may have been interpreted differently in other words, so if I caused offence or came across as being judgmental or not listening it was probably "text lost in translation" as the saying goes. :o

By the way, just looked at that Blackberry and did you notice it has 60 days warranty ? Very good for the price considering it says it is new. I will certainly be considering it too.
