Are you sure that the OP needs BBS just for using, say, WhatsApp?
If not, at best it will only work via WiFi.
With the package, all data needs are taken care of within the package and everything will just work, whereever they may be. Mobile signal permitting.
Not bad for around £3 per month.0 -
So if I bought the T-Mobile Sim on ebay, I would need to change my number? Don't they supply a Sim card with new phones anyway ? So is it better to swap over to T-Mobile for cost saving on the data usage then ? Carphonewarehouse are selling Nokia Lumia 520 on Orange or T-Mobile for £59.95 which seems reasonable, is it cheaper to reserve on line and collect in store?
Questions, questions .... sorry
You can get your Orange number moved to the new T-Mobile SIM. If I'm wrong, someone will hopefully correct me.
I'm not sure that Orange can beat six months of unlimited Internet access for £20 or less. So I would certainly consider a switch.
Test the phones first and see how you go.
I didn't like Touchscreen Qwerty, but I didn't try it for very long. Friends seem quite proficient with it.0 -

If you are happy with a Touchscreen Qwerty, the Windows phone fully supports what you need to do. The only issue then will be how much data you could use.
Perhaps ringo can help with this.
The amount of data to be used is immaterial if the OP uses wifi.. Whatsapp doesn't use much, but I've never used viber - if it's like Skype it will use a decent chunk of data.
OP, do you have wireless internet at home?0 -

Yes I do, my laptop is using wifi.0 -

WhatsApp needs access to the internet.
BBs can access internet without BBS that is needed mainly for BBM that the OP doesn't need.
£3 p.m. is not a small amount for the OP to waste. The only possible reason I can imagine for paying for BBS can be if WhatsApp for BB is designed to work only via BBS.0 -

You can't just depend on WiFi. In that case, why bother with a phone that offers 3G?
Better that all bases are covered. Of course I use WiFi whilst at home, but as soon as I step outside the door I need 3G. If my Internet is down for any amount of time, I need 3G.
So best that you have it covered. The T-Mobile deal for data is not a bad choice, as the OP can make as many mistakes as they like, without any chance of bill shock or their credit being eaten away.0 -

I am no expert, but you failed to convince me.

I don't need to convince you. Try it if you want.
You argument is totally pointless. If they had a Windows or Android Phone, they could easily use 11p worth of data per day and more.
So £3 per month for BIS and data is a good deal.
Without BIS on a Blackberry, the OP would have to work out how to install WhatsApp in the first place.
Then to figure out how to get it to work without BIS. They will, at best, only be able to use it via WiFi. Even if they could use it with data, they might still spend 11p of data in a day anyway.
So, unless you have a better option....
Of course if they switched off data completely and only used the phone via WiFi, they could save on data.
Not really the best solution. Also if the go abroad using a T-Mobile SIM, they can't rack up any data charges.0 -

Out of interest.. Why don't you just use skype on your laptop?
I'm afraid that some of the other posters may be barking up the wrong tree in how you plan to use your phone
The reason I am changing my mobile to a one that uses Apps is because my daughterm (who has recently moved to Spain) who i am texting a lot is not yet on Broadband until she moves somewhere move permanent and the signal where she is is pretty poor for skyping, plus she will be out and about a lot in Spain working, so obviously a cheaper way of texting and calling will be great.0
