  • Just go onto your local authority website and search for Trading Standards. You should be able to report their activities.

Trading Standards no longer take consumer complaints.

Complaints of this type should be addressed to the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06.

They will decide whether it is to be forwarded to the appropriate Trading Standards Department.

Worth noting that the appropriate Trading Standards Department is where the company is trading, not where the complainant is based.
  • I replied to an advert on yahoo and purchased the serum unaware until I got my credit card bill in that I had apparenlty agreed to a subscription and was charged £84 by this company and £89 by another related company Leor. My credit card told me that it was a well known legal scam and as I had agreed to their terms and conditions they could not help me. They suggested I call the companies directly. I called Agerenew and was put through to USA where they kept repeating the same chant that I had signed up for this. After about 30mins they agreed to refund me 50% of the cost which I have eventually agreed to as I was getting nowhere. It is supposed and watch this space. I also contacted Leor and got the same rubbish although this time seemed to be from India. Evenutally was offered £50 refund apparently from the operator's personal discount! Again I have agreed to accept this so again watch this space. I am meanwhile contacting Citizen's advice for further action. I am shocked that the credit card companies who are well aware of this scam are allowing these companies to take money from our accounts without bringing it to our attention and will be pursuing this also. I feel so foolish for falling prey to this and it has been an expensive learning exercise.

I am disappointed that you seem to want to blame the bank.

As the company, and your bank have told you, you did agree to the terms and you did sign up to an ongoing subscription deal.

Do you really think the bank has authority to decide what purchases you make?

I cannot think why anyone would want this subscription deal, but as there appears to be nothing illegal happening here, it is for the prospective customer to decide what they buy.
  • We got caught too! They will send you a new serum every month until you spot the con and cancel! As we paid on credit card we'd already received the second tube before we even knew we'd been charged the first £84! Same statement also contained second charge of £89 for the second delivery! I called to cancel which they did straight away! Had to send the second tube back special delivery(£7) and they have actually refunded! They won't refund the original £84 though as we didn't spot it in time! This is a very clever scam! We all need to report them to local trading standards and share the word via social media etc to warn others.
  • I called them to cancel on 0800 249 4323 - web address is agerenewskin.com/support - they did refund me for the second tube but not the first as we didn't suss the scam in time.
  • Same happened to me via Virgin.net site. I have cancelled directly with them (ridiculous phone conversation about it being obvious on the website) and with my bank.
I don't understand the conversation about 'returning the sample'. The offer was to pay postage only to get the sample, which I received. Therefore I should still be able to get the £84 back because the next 'monthly supply' did not arrive?
  • I've been conned via ebay, just spoke to Age Renew on phone and they won't give me there Head office address so this is the company your dealing with. They did give me a return address which is a P.O. Box but I've asked for there fraud dept. to contact me as they have a different name to me as the account holder so how the hell have they got the 2 £84.71 payments out of my bank? which I'll be speaking to on Monday to get all of my money back not just 1 lot by returning there latest product.
I've also contacted Ebay but they wern't much help as it was a spoof but put them wise so they will put a note on there notice board for anyone else that gets caught by them.
Good luck and hope you all get it sorted, Stu.

  • I too fell for this; only noticed the payment on my credit card yesterday. I wrote to the company saying as I hadn't opened the sample, I wished to return it for credit and close my "account" forthwith. The response came back, not possible to have a refund as more than 14 days have passed. I've checked my original email and the information about an account being opened after 14 days is spelt out quite clearly. I just didn't scroll down that far to read it, like most others I guess!! Just have to accept it and be a little more cautious in future. Checked with my card holder and was told its not within their remit to block any future payment which may be taken but they would then "act" if a second payment was taken. Might try phoning the company
    later.
