Irishrose you sound like a nice tA, but even though you may think it's normal to swear in everyday language you would not call a =3 year old an effing psycho, so it's that which we're upset about, not your everyday language.
There's a difference between swearing, and swearing AT somebody, if that makes sense.
I'll admit I don't like swearing in everyday language. I think it makes the words harder to decipher if they are peppered with the f word, and it's tiresome trying to listen to somebody who can't get a sentence together without at least 3 swear words.
But, that's completely different to the aggression and dislike involved in swearing AT somebody. I don't think you would have spoken to the 3 year old in that way.I used to be an axolotl0 -

Oh and my parents used to swear at us when we were young, as do I now and again at my own kiddie winkles
Is it just me who finds the bit in bold quite rude? I will admit to swearing pretty often but I don't usually call other people "posh snotty nose" ... it's not necessary. It's ironic to call people rude names because they might not use swear words!
I agree with the irony!
I very rarely swear and never swear at people because I don't think it's a good thing to do.
I'm curious to know, if it's "normal" to use swear words in everyday conversation and to swear at people, including your children, what's good about it? Are the children allowed to swear at each other and at adults? If not, why is wrong for them to do so but okay for all the adults around them?0 -

after reading that response from IrishRose, i've just re-read the thread again as i thought i'd completely mis-understood what had been said. i'll freely admit that i can over react sometimes (i'm a work in progress & am much improved over the years!
), but those are some advanced skills at 'reading between the lines', mind reading & putting words in others mouths.
i'm not fortunate enough to be a parent, but i find it quite scary that someone who deals with children on a daily basis can think like that.0 -

Also what's so funny about that phrase you don't know me from atom??? You don't know her, or me, or anyone else on this thread.
That's a common saying/phrase here in N.Ireland.
By the way to whoever asked me where abouts in England I live. I don't live in England. I live in Portadown in N.Ireland. I also said nothing about living on a council estate. Why would I? There's nothing wrong with council estates.
As for the people who are trying their best to put IrishRose down and make a laughing stock of her. Shame on you. That woman is defending herself and you are just laughing at her. No if that isn't a form of bullying then I don't know what is. Fair play to you IrishRose, continue to stand up for yourself and I'm sure from reading your posts you do great work in your school. There are many a person who wouldn't put in that extra mile for some children, and spend their own money on them. You should be praised for doing that, not laughed at and made fun off! I think the people who are doing so on here are a disgrace!0 -
The saying is "you don't know me from Adam" not atom. The fact that you also claim that to be a common phrase seems odd when it is clearly something that has been misheard by Irishrose.0

I've never heard "don't know me from Atom" - the common accepted phrase is "don't know me from Adam". However, I've googled it and it appears to be relatively common rasta patois - which would seem to be preferred speak by a large percentage of young teenagers regardless of where they live/their local accents!0 -
There ain't much rasta patois going down in Norn Ireland.0

Well I and many others around me say atom. I've always thought it was atom, Never heard of Adam. Saying that, when I say atom and adam they both sound the same to me, so there's plenty of us who are saying it wrong. But again, why make fun some someone for saying it?? Still not very nice either way. seems to me that people are picking on people and nit picking just for the sake of it. Again, that's what bullies like to do.0
