Methinks there's probably more to it than the simple matter of the dog bed. Whether it's an alternative issue between the owner and yourselves, or maybe they've had other comments about the dog/its care and are particularly oversensitive about it, who knows.
I don't think you can particularly do anything about such an overreaction to something so trivial really, especially if they're refusing to speak to you. I'd consider myself well out of it, if that's how they react to someone doing them a favour by dogsitting!0 -

We did think of keeping her, we loved her , the dog bed could have been simply solved, owner did remember to say thank you for having her:D0 -
Personally, I'd have bought the poor dog a new bed, sent her home with it and not said a word, until it was brought up by the dog's owner.
If the dog's owner did say anything about it, I would have just smiled and said that "Oh I couldn't let such a lovely dog suffer by not having a comfie bed at night.
BTW, decent dog beds aren't that expensive.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

Just one small point, my dog has a lovely comfy bean bag to sleep on, it has plenty of stuffing but he does turn round and round several times before settling.
I'm not saying you are wrong but I do think it is a thing dogs do!0 -
Dogs do turn and turn to find a comfy spot, it's a hangover from when they would have to trample grass, etc to lie down for the night. Mine still does it, and he has a very comfy bed
.
This is the one our dog has now, under £30.

Looking at other options, a single duvet from matalan costs £6, and a cover for it costs £25 (possibly cheaper elsewhere, but the drying coats from Freckles Designs are superb quality, they were used on Sport Relief's Top Dog).

Any chance you can forward these links to the owner, via email, to show that decent dog beds aren't actually that expensive?
Poor girl.
BTW, I think the anxiety and loose bowels could well be linked, if our dog gets stressed, then the person next walking them pays the price.

Mine does this as well - as well as trying to fluff up the carpet before falling in a heap on it!
I have to say my mutt hasn't got a bed......we've bought him 3 and each one of them has ended up the source of a 'snow storm' so after the 3rd I said no more.......doesn't mean I don't love mutt but I'm not going to throw good money after bad all the time.
When he did have a bed, I noticed he never slept on it as such but used it as a pillow.2014 Target;

Id be more worried about the stomach problems than the bed. My dog sleeps on the floor all the time, even with a brand spanking new bed, ungrateful sausage that she is!!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0

Awww, I dunno why but pictures of cats in dogs beds always makes me smile! I wish my kitty would get over her fear of our dog and be friends, he's just a softie (but big, a lab) and she's so grouchy and tiny... cat has top two floors of house and dog has bottom) mind you cat has been 1000 times more effective at stopping dog gong upstairs then anything else would have been!0
