    nataliedee this is a horrible time for you.

    I can understand your reluctance to go to the foodbank but if I can say one thing to you it's that I think feeding yourself well is just about the most important thing you need to do right now. you know on airplanes when they tell you that in the case of an emergency you MUST put on your own oxygen mask before trying to help someone else? well this is your emergency situation and you must give yourself oxygen before you will be any use at all to your son. i'll take an educated guess and suggest that you wont be sleeping very well either right now so it is even more vital that you maintain your energy levels with food so you have the mental and physical strength to cope with this situation until things get a bit easier. please go to the foodbank and get some basic essentials, including the toiletries as a shower and clean teeth every day are number 2 (after good food) in the battle against depression which it is so easy to slip into in your situation. I have been there and it has taken me years to finally realise that it is these simple things, good nutritious food, daily washing and good night's sleep every night that are the foundations of good mental health. don't neglect yourself. this is the time when it is most important to look after yourself so please get all the help that is available to you. it's your defence armour against the battle ahead of you.

    It might be worth contacting the food bank and explaining the situation. Somebody might be able to drop off a food parcel at your house. It's worth a try, and if they say no, then you're no worse off than you are now, but if they can do it, then you'll be a bit better off.

    Natalie,

    How about something like;

    Dear Food Bank Team,

    I have just left an abusive relationship and am in financial limbo whilst awaiting the first wages from a new job. I am suffering from severe anxiety and am finding it difficult to leave the house. Please could you let me know whether it's possible for your team to deliver an emergency package to my home address.

    Details:
    Your address
    Number of occupants (age of child)
    Anything you especially need (eg toiletries, fresh produce)
    Name and address of your GP

    I hope to be able to contribute to your efforts in future when I am back on my feet.

    Regards

    Natalie

    Bloody well done you! I know that will have taken a lot….but just sometimes the thinking about doing something is worse than the actual doing, so I am really glad you feel better about it now you've been. Well done, you should be proud of yourself.
    Just incase anyone else is reading this thread and is in a similar position to you, how was the food bank? Were the people there nice?

    OK, so your son's birthday….I think you'll be surprised at what he will be happy with. All our kids want is love, they don't really care how many boxes they have to open. How old is he? Perhaps we can think up some ways to give him a few extra treats at no cost?
