I opened one this morning and another this afternoon - both went through smoothly and are now showing online and accepting payments.

Signed up for online banking and paperless as the application went along.

Thanks to all who have contributed helpful info on this thread.

I had £4001.80 sitting in an account with only 1.49% (maxed out other higher % accounts) so hopefully these accounts will be a happy home for the £4000!! ;)

Might treat myself to an ice-cream with the £1.80 :rotfl:

I'd love to explain, but I'm a bit pressed for time myself just now.
    Don't be childish & pathetic!
You assume wrong, the majority on this thread simply opened the second account on-line using the same details they used for the first and the accounts were automatically linked ;)
Interesting. I wonder if there's something wrong with my account as it wont let me do that (apply for a second solo account). I keep getting an error message.
No. Two personal accounts each and two joint.

We've now got six accounts between us - the two joint accounts were opened this week in branch.

    FB.
    That's a positive then. Thanks.

Others had the same problem. Try logging in and then apply for the second or delete cookies and try again.

I didn't have any problems though, just applied for the first, logged in, then applied for the second about an hour later. Some say they got an error msg if they tried for a third? Have you logged in yet?

    Hi,

I have just received an email saying that they rejected my account application. How is that possible? I though everyone would get current account?

I also applied for a lot of other accounts with other banks (~6 in total), maybe this has to do with this?
Or maybe it was because I asked for overdraft? (Even though i dont even need it...).

However, my GF did exactly the same (minus the overdraft), and got it..

Would you recommended reapplying now without the overdraft, or would you recommend waiting a bit?

    Thanks

Of course its possible. Everyone's credit rating and circumstances are different. Applying for several accounts in a short space of time is unlikely to have helped.

  • Hello - opened one of these online yesterday. I've got my internet banking ID and password, and a sort code and account number. Been told to take my ID into branch for checking, and they'll hold the account for me for 14 days.

Can you take the ID into any branch for checking? Or does it need to be the one we selected as our nearest branch on the application?

[I'm going past one that isn't the nearest one tomorrow! Haha!]

I'd wait a few months before re-applying, some banks recommend 6 months, but give it at least a couple even if you going to reapply minus the overdraft.

I'd imagine any appropriate branch would do, don't try taking your id into a Lloyds branch for example.

    Sorry to hear that :(

Do you mind if I ask when you applied? I applied online 10 days ago and am still waiting for a decision.

I applied ~a week ago. Really didnt think I will get rejected, as my credit history is clean, and I pay in full etc.

My GF, applied for now overdraft, and got it 3 days later...

Anyway, will wait 2 months, and reapply for no overdraft.... Shouldnt have applied for 6 accounts in one day, i guess..

Couple of questions for the experts! Does it matter what you select from the drop down box eg. for spending money?
Also, thinking of opening one for myself as well as other half but I don't work will that make a difference as they ask about employment?
