Couple of questions for the experts! Does it matter what you select from the drop down box eg. for spending money?

I've put 'savings' for all of the TSB and Lloyds accounts, doesn't seem to have affected anything - been accepted for all of them. Will get so much welcome post next week that the postie is going to wonder what i'm doing...:D
Shouldnt have applied for 6 accounts in one day, i guess..
I did 14 between Lloyds, TSB, Halifax and supporting savings/DD accounts... :)

just applied & got 2 more accounts, 1 each for me & OH. chose savings as the option on these & both went through ok & are showing on online banking already, linked to our original accounts.

might as well keep £8k in these accounts instead of poor paying ISA's (can't tie up my money for any longer than a year maximum at the moment so only getting around 2% on ISA's).

I don't think so, but I put "Regular income" for all of mine as I intend to fund them all with £1,000 every month.

Also, thinking of opening one for myself as well as other half but I don't work will that make a difference as they ask about employment?

It may well make a difference. I certainly wouldn't apply for an overdraft. Maybe better to apply in branch so you can discuss things.

I applied ~a week ago. Really didnt think I will get rejected, as my credit history is clean, and I pay in full etc.
Not looking promising for me, then. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

When I applied for a joint account by phone yesterday I was asked what I would be using it for. I replied Savings and was told that it should have money going in and out every month, which it will have, £500. I changed my answer to Bills and he was happy.

I wouldn't give up just yet if your credit files are in good shape. TSB have somehow lost applications in their system before. Pop into a branch and start afresh. Don't even bother to mention the seemingly abandoned existing application. Should they find it in the process of going through your personal application, you can still suddenly remember but plead forgiveness for forgetting - - - it's not like TSB didn't forget about it, is it!

Take a photo ID and a bank statement and/or utility bill in case they can't find you electronically.

No. Two personal accounts each and two joint.

We've now got six accounts between us - the two joint accounts were opened this week in branch.

    FB.
We have two personal accounts each and rang my branch today asking to open a joint account each and was told that we can only have two accounts in our name, ie one joint and one sole or two sole accounts...

I said but I know others that have 2 sole accounts and a joint account in their name, she went away to ask someone and came back with same answer..??

Not sure where to go from here now as I understand you can only open joint accounts in a branch....

When you opened your account FB did they know you already had 2 accounts each?

If I was in your position I wouldn't have volunteered I already had the 'official' maximum number of accounts. I'd have walked in off the street/made an appointment and simply asked to apply for a joint account as an existing customer.

Suggest you try this at another branch...if there's one within a reasonable distance? If there isn't, then you're stuck with the 2 sole each because it doesn't sound like this branch are going to change their mind.

I guess if I did this they would see we already had two accounts each..

Have just read the T&Cs again and all it says is....
Restrictions - Maximum of 2 Plus accounts
No mention if sole or joint accounts, so guess it is max of 2 accounts whatever they are..

Only way is to pretend to be a completely new customer, not sure how we would stand with that and if they would tie up our details with our existing accounts...
