I've noticed this a few times when sending payments from my Santander 123 Account to any new accounts that have been set up with other financial institutions. I like most send a test payment of a low value before sending the full amount across, only to find the money leaves the account, usually returns, and then finally moves the next day. Having rang Santander about this, they've told me it has rightly gone through some additional security checks before being transferred. During this period the money is normally returned to your account so any interest is not lost, before it's released and resent

Well they be making that up! Firstly, they couldn't care less about the customers interest, and secondly, all of my payments like this are rejected and sent by them on the same day (the day after I've sent the payment), so there's no difference in interest.

Two of these opened up very easily just need to find a home for the Enhance money when the rate no doubt takes a plunge in the coming months.

Hopefully some more banks will jump on the high paying current account interest bandwagon

Hopefully! Maybe Tesco might when it launches a current account

As stated on their website joint accounts can only be opened or set up in branch. It needs both parties to attend.

This confirms what I have thought. The staff at TSB have little idea of their own accounts! I am still awaiting the return telephone call!

Why would you not want to read/comprehend the official T&Cs and instead rely on the opinions of a random website or forum?

A bit more detail on how many people don't read the T&C in general
Nearly three quarters of people do not read terms and conditions and policy documents from banks and insurers in full because they are far too long-winded, according to research, and often longer than some novels.

Of Britain’s largest banks, HSBC topped the table for jargon. Its terms and conditions for a current account came in at a heavyweight 34,162 words – almost 5,000 words longer than George Orwell’s classic Animal Farm.

The research of 2,000 people by consumer group Fairer Finance found that of the quarter who are brave enough to tackle the small print, just 17 per cent actually understand it.

I can believe that a huge number of people do not read T&Cs and instead just tick the box to say they read them. There is probably none of us who isn't guilty of it but everybody should know that T&Cs apply whether you read them or not, and some people take a calculated risk that they will get away without every reading a word of any T&Cs.

But all this is still no good reason at all for relying on some internet forum when it comes to critical T&Cs that govern your finances. Surely nobody is kidding themselves and believes because they read something on a forum means it forms part of the contract they have with a service provider or supplier? Hmh, may be some people do. And may be some people think by sticking their heads into the sand, only the favourable T&Cs, or rules that they have dreamt up themselves, will apply to them but not the official T&Cs that they have confirmed they have read.

In any case, the terms relating to the Santander 123, Lloyds Vantage, BOS Vantage, Halifax Reward, First Direct, TSB Vantage, TSB Plus, as well as most cash and S&S ISAs, are all easy to understand.

People like you and I who can find, read, and comprehend, T&Cs, are doing those who think T&Cs are way too difficult to even bother with no favour by not pointing the lost lambs at the T&Cs.

I'd say the figure could be even higher for those taking out Wonga (and the like) payday loans!

Has anyone received a chequebook for their new TSB account yet?

Or do we have to request that separately?
    Or don't they provide one?

Seriously thinking of switching my Lloyds account (where they have just given notice to cut my interest rates by 1.5%, so credit balances of less than £1k will now earn no interest at all - wef July) to a new TSB account, and whilst I don't write many cheques nowadays, I do want a chequebook if I am to switch.
  • How long does it usually take to open an account? I applied on 17 April, just before the holiday weekend and received an automated reply:
    Dear Fruit and Nut Case

    We're processing your application

Your application reference number is 0000000

Thank you for applying for a TSB current account. We'll email you to let you know if your
application has been approved. If we have your mobile number we’ll also send you a text
    message.

You don't need to do anything now. Please remember not to apply for another one of our current
accounts while you’re waiting to hear as we won’t be able to accept another application.
    Since then, zilch. Any thoughts?

Well a week sounds a reasonable time to wait whilst they check things out as you were not accepted (or declined) immediately online.

So in normal circumstances I would suggest giving them a call today.

But with Easter having been in the way, I suggest you leave it until Tuesday/Wednesday to call (assuming you still have not heard back by then)
