I was simply hoping to piggyback off others' scrutinising of the T&Cs. It's also apparent that the internal question has arisen multiple times on this thread so wanted to nail it definitively and cited the MSN Money article as evidence of where confusion can arise from. What do you mean by random? I know this site isn't TSB, but it's certainly not random. This thread is about the very account I'm seeking clarification on.
What I mean by random is that MSE, and the MSE forum, is just a random website which has no relevance to the T&Cs published by a financial institution. Should be obvious. What gets written on MSE, by official MSE or by forumites, has no bearings on the T&Cs of any bank accounts. Everyone's account is governed by T&Cs, not by what someone on some random website said about it.

The only reason you are "seeking clarification" is that you have made no apparent efforts to read the T&Cs, which in themselves are terribly easy to undersatnd (credit to TSB to making them so simple to understand.....although they are still almost impossible to find on the TSB website unless you have bookmarked the link).

If you have a genuine query about T&Cs, you need to address it to the company who you are taking / have taken out a contract with. Of course you could ask some mates on an internet forum about what they think the T&Cs mean but their opinion is nothing more than just that - opinion. They mean nothing as far as your relationship with the company is concerned.

When accounts such as these are launched we really ought to develop a FAQ to serve those who want to "piggy-back" off those who CAN be bothered to read the account T&Cs
What makes you think that those who can't be bothered to read the T&Cs would read, and/or comprehend a FAQ?

    The law of averages!

    Some will.
Some will, yet still post to check their understanding.
Some won't, and will be directed to the FAQ by others.

Anything that reduces the size of these threads is a bonus isn't it? It's near impossible now to refer someone to a recent post in this TSB thread, simply because it's 7 or 8 pages back (at my 20 posts/page setting), meaning the reply has to be written again.

It is only near impossible because lots of people cba to read anything but answers to their own questions, and sometimes they don't even read those.

I like your idea of a FAQ in general, but how would you implement it in practice? I.e. who would write what where when how, and how would a FAQ remove the questions of the people who can't be bothered to read more than the last 5 words? How would it help people to comprehend that they do have to read and comprehend the T&Cs?

The OP of this thread is a regular, as is bsms1147 who started the Co-op switching thread. Maybe they could edit their post(s) to encompass a FAQ section?

Alternatively, the regulars could adopt a user name and share the password to enable several users to maintain the FAQ. I believe something similar was trialled (may even still be in use) by Special_Saver2 on the savings board a couple of years ago?

Two things to consider with the second option:

    1. Sharing passwords may be against forum rules?
    2. Most people would prefer to be 'paid' for work. ;)
and how would a FAQ remove the questions of the people who can't be bothered to read more than the last 5 words?
    It might not/would not!
How would it help people to comprehend that they do have to read and comprehend the T&Cs?
It might carry a disclaimer and a suggestion to read the T&Cs, but I do appreciate 'you can lead a horse...'

Actually, I am warming to the idea of FAQs - though would perhaps use a googledoc to set up a FAQ and maintain it. The editing of existing posts is generally a massive PITA, and as you say, it isn't easy to share a post amongst several people. With a googledoc, the originator can give any number of people editing rights. Though I think they must all have google (gmail) accounts.

It would still all be on a volunteer basis, and it probably wouldn't stop people from asking the same old questions again and again, but at least the responses could be just the URL of the FAQ......

Followed by people saying "For how long it took you to post the link, you could have just gave me the answer. Mumble mumble..."

We could take the stance that some other forums do, where they say "Questions asked that are in the FAQ will be locked or deleted", but that might be a little too harsh?

Definitely too harsh. Although I have enormous respect for YorkshireBoy and innovate, I don't understand where all this negativity is coming from. If people don't want to answer someone's question then they don't have to post a reply. Personally, I don't mind answering someone's question regardless of how many times it's been asked, but maybe that just means I'm a patient person.

It's not negativity on my part. I'm just looking for a way to improve things. Surely if someone has a basic* question about this account, some weeks after it was launched, their time would be better spent checking the FAQ than typing a question and then waiting for someone to come along and answer it?

    *
Can I open more than one account?
Do I need to switch to the account?
    Do I need DDs?
Does it have to be new money, ie transfers from an external account?
Is interest paid monthly or annually?
    When is the interest paid?
How much interest will I make per month if I keep £2K in there?
I have limited functionality in my online area. Why?
How do I check I'm set up for paperless statements?
    Etc
    Etc

I do agree that the FAQ would be a very good facility.

The easier thing to do would be a link to the T+Cs?
