I have accounts with dozens of bookies. Most are very strict with proofs of ID and age, but are unscrupulous and prefer postponing this until you request a withdrawal. Most UK bookies can use CRAs and electoral roll for checking ID.
Not really unscrupulous but doing money laundering checks first.0 -
Why would any network not make all reasonable efforts to avoid people under 18 signing up? If that requires a birth cert, so be it.
It's surely in their interests to do so, since if the account then goes into arrears they will have no legal recourse to recover the debt from a minor. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

And why 'first' is only when you win and want to withdraw, not when you open the account and deposit (like banks do)?
Why are they happy to take the allegedly 'dirty' money and keep it if you lose?0 -
our debit card was in the correct age so was her bank account both say 16 years old.
A person's debit card does not hold or pass on any DOB information when paying for a product or service.
This thread is hilarious that you seem to believe EE/Orange/P4U are at fault here. It's your sister who has committed fraud and will in the very near future suffer the consequences when she actually wants to obtain credit legally (i.e. phone contract, small loan for a car maybe, student loan, credit card, etc).0 -
seems a bit silly in this day and age though more checks arent done
it seems too easy for a minor to signup for something thats illegal
oh well she'll pay the price no credit for 6 years at her age will hurtWhat goes around-comes around0 -
still no call from EE fraud team.
i'm going to call them tonight to short things out.
All companies need to verify ages before they can open a contract failure to do this makes the contract invalided.
I already know has admitted by phones4u they did not check ID.
in other words anyone could of walked into the store and got a phone.
And yes orange did try to make my grandad pay for the phone witch is illegal as he is not part of the contract.0 -
