There’s quite a difference between treating yourself to a few new things each year and having to buy a whole new wardrobe as nothing you own fits anymore. I certainly couldn't afford to replace all the clothes I need.[/QUOT E]

If you really had to buy new clothes because your old ones wouldnt fit you then you would have to. End of. What if you lost loads of weight due to health problems etc.
A few years ago I lost loads of weight over 2 stones and I couldnt wear my existing clothes as Jeans wouldnt stay up even with a belt and t shirts looked stupid as they were flapping about. I just got a few new pairs of jeans and tops etc. You dont have to spend a fortune to get some new basics.
I continued to wear the same coats etc as a lot of people wear loose jackets.

When I started my business I was literally, no word of a lie, doing 100 - 120 hours a week every week for two years, and most of it on the highways and byways. I was rarely at home to make anything healthy and my food always come with a purchase of fuel:(. The following years reduced in hours, but it was still several years before I became a slacker at 55- 60 hours. i went from a 12 to an 18 and somehow it's never really gone:(

This is what I genuinely don't understand. I have been the same clothes size all my life. That's not to say my weight hasn't fluctuated over the years but... I have never bought clothes in the next size up. As soon as jeans get a little snug, I just up the exercise and watch what I eat for a few days.

I just don't understand people who put on weight year after year and just buy bigger and bigger clothes. How do they afford it?

I live a frugal, careful, disciplined life in every other way. I control spending with an iron grip. I put endless hours into hitting deadlines for my business. I run a second business at the weekends. And when it's 2am and I'm still working on yet another client deadline, I just want to eat some chocolate. I'm way overdrawn at the bank of self-denial. I spent it all on everything else. :p

To the ones who say they dont find their husbands attractive when they are fatter - what if it was a medical condition and they couldn't help it? would you say, sorry pet, you've put on a few stone so i'm not sleeping with you anymore?

thinking about this mans weight problem, I think if I was the partner I would encourage him to go to see the practice nurse for a full health check. They will do bloods tests for chloestrol and weigh and measure him.
Also they will be able to tell him straight as well and look into if there are any underlying medical reasons for being so fat.
Like the woman above, he might have an endocrine or neurological problem that no one has picked up on.
There was a man who lived down my street and he became enormous when he had a brain tumour. So it is possible.
21 stones is no laughing matter, my Dad was told off by the hospital for being 15 stones and dieted down to 13 stones. He still ended up having a heart attack at 57 and dropping dead. So OP needs to get him to take action as its really serious risk to his health.
