We are having a tipi wedding in a small holding with glamping for the guests0

I love this thread!! I don't have to put up with "judgey face" but my mum lives 120 miles away so I have to deal with "disappointed voice" instead! Every week she calls for an update and I dread it (which I feel terrible about).
We're having a vintage themed wedding which she really doesn't understand. If its not totally traditional, she doesn't get it. I told her I was looking into VW campervans - "what for?" was the response. "but you and your dad need a separate car from your bridesmaids".
She suggested I have my cousin who I never see and have never been close with as my bridesmaid (forget about my 3 best friends I've known forever). The fact that I am having 3 bridesmaids and OH is not having a best man or any ushers is inconceivable - "but the photos will be uneven" - really?!!!
I'm going to the venue on the morning of the wedding to set up the cake (which i'm making myself) and decorate the tables (mason jars, tin cans, tea lights and babys breath). We're not getting married until 3pm but she thinks there isn't enough time.
And just to tip her over the edge, we're having a hot buffet rather than a sit down meal! So nothing very extreme at all but still causing drama.
Still at least I know I'm not alone!0 -

How CAN he just refuse?! Surely - being a BM comes part and parcel with doing a speech... I mean, what the flapjack else do they do?! OH's isn't even organising the stag do (my bridesmaid isn't organising my hen either...) as he is determined to go abroad and OH knows that the people he wants to go on it won't have the money so said he would just sort something himself (read, I will sort something out instead)...:j Married to the Love of my Life 02.08.2014 - Now I'm Mrs E :j

Oh Tasha! You've just made me snort with laughter. What the flapjack may become my new favourite phrase!
It's good to see so many people doing their own thing, and not just another 'cookie cutter' wedding. Also how many of us have gone for 3pm or later? (I've actually got a good excuse on this one, as I've got M.E., so I've told everyone I can't cope with a long day LOLs, actually I just can't see the point of having a long day)Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A0 -
A random update for you all - I've made another decision about the wedding.
Two words:
Lollipop Bouquets.
BOOM :-D IT'S GONNA BE INCREDIBLEOfficially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A0 -

I'm having a wedding in a hotel!
I know its not original but don't bust on us gals having a cookie cutter wedding.. But I love the sound of a local castle! We are going to a local castle for our photos.. Hopefully the best of both worlds..
Although, why is it expected if you earn more that you have to spend more money?? Yes me and my OH are comfortable.. Why do people feel the need to push us into debt MIL!! :mad:094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer tbh so maybe it's a good thing. My OH isn't having a stag do his BM wanted to go Amsterdam but that's because he's into smoking pot (my OH use to when he was much much younger but hasn't in over 7 years) so he's said he doesn't want a stag do. I'm not having a hen night either because I only have 2 young bridesmaids and don't fancy spending a night with people I'm not that bothered about.

Those of you who didn't have best men, can you share the reasons for that?
We didn't have a best man because there was no obvious candidate so we weren't interested in manufacturing one for appearances.
We tied the rings on to a ring cushion for my young Bridesmaid to carry (gave it to her just outside the ceremony room). My DH and I spent the night before together, walked to the ceremony together.
We asked one of my best friends to be a witness and a relative of DH's.
And my brother who's a natural at organising was on hand to guide guests from the ceremony room to the reception downstairs and announce us in to he reception as Mr and Mrs BB.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

Don't get me wrong, I've been to a few hotel weddings, all of which have been unique in their own way. We don't lead a glamorous lifestyle (although I aspire to, hence the castle!), rarely frequent hotels and are more often found in our campervan, so a hotel wedding is just not 'us', IYSWIM!"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
I'ce attended some amazing "cookie cutter" hotel weddings and some dire "we're doing it our way" weddings.....and vice versa.
It isn't about the format it's about the couple and how they stamp their personalities on the day .......and to a degree the personalities of the family and guests. A barn wedding can be just as formulatic and predictable as a ballroom wedding .....or the opposite.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0
