People Judge Me for my Wedding, but I Love It

We are getting married in the town hall when they have antiques fairs in a town with over 200 hotels and B&B's.
Reception if 20 minute drive (shock horror) away from the town under a river and through a mountain.
It is out doors with two half barns, cake and coffee on arrival, camping, fire pits, hog roast and not a 'real meal', cheese wheel cake rather then a 'real cake', giant jenga, giant connect 4, croquet, board games, playing cards and poker, no dance floor, no DJ just a few guitars and a ukelele and whoever is willing. No bouqet toss, no speeches, no glass clinking, no fancy glasses - jam jars with chalk stckers and charms on, no champagne toast - we are having mead though
For my mum the shocker was the wedding cake a think, after showing her some pintrest photos she is starting to come round...
No body has complained per say but we do get the ... Hmmmmmm? noise! People who know us well though say 'Awwww thats soo you and Yey hog roast!'
Sounds awesome!Married 30/08/14 :heartpuls0 -

Indeed. The only rule is that you have to do the legal bit as directed by the registrar or priest. After that, it's your day.
Some people won't see it that way though, but that's their problem. They can only make it your problem if you let them ...We're all doomed0 -
Reasonably traditional, but Paper flower bouquet, sci-fi bits in mason jars for centre pieces, chewbacca cardboard cut out, popping candy as part of the favours.
biggest exclamations when I said I was having orange nails (hubby's favourite colour), and no real flowers (they just die and can keep forever the fake arrangement we got)
the offbeat bride website was a fantastic source of inspiration!0 -
Ours was pretty standard, only a couple of things we didn't have:
Day and evening guests - everyone came to the lot. Saves a lot of hassle.
Favours - just don't see the point.
Tables - no tables, no table plan.
A sit down meal - there were no tables to sit at...
Fruit cake - chocolate is better.
A slow first dance - in retrospect "awkward shuffle" is a style that suits me well - should have stuck with it.
A DJ - Had the band and did the rest through playlists on the iPod.
Any kind of exit - why would you leave your own party early!?
A curfew. Gave up around 2:30, I was getting sleepy
Any regrets.0 -
Here's our plans for our wedding in May this year
I have a burgundy dress, my daughter has an emerald green dress, my son is wearing his suit he got for his prom, himself is getting a new suit.
So far the invites have gone to his mother and one mutual friend, although there may be a few more sent out, still working on that one.
His mum is coming to collect me and the kids on the morning and driving us to the RO, we get married, have a few photos taken, then all pile into the pub near the cimema for a meal (2 for £10 meals lol), we picked there as it's actually really nice food.
We are going to a Premier Inn for a couple of nights.
I have made my jewellery, I have bought loads of silk flowers and will be making my bouquet, my daughter's and all the button holes.
so far I haven't informed my parents, mainly because they don't like himself that much, and mainly because I just can't be assed with the stress of it, we don't have an awful lot to do with each other these days. Although I will send them a lovely pic os us afterwards.
If anyone doesn't like our plans, then that's their look out, (hence the lack of invites) I don't want a huge fussy expensive day, I don't want to invite people that I normally barely speak to, never mind pay to feed them, there is no law to say I have to have a reception and night do. But I do want to dress up and look special for the day.
Saying that, we are actually away the weekend after at an event, with loads of friends for the weekend, most of us staying in the same hotel, so I am pretty sure there will be a few drinks bought for us and a really good party atmosphere then.0 -
Here is something to remember. A few weeks after your wedding the only folks who will remember it will be you. So do what makes you happy, without turning into a bridezilla:)weight loss target 23lbs/49lb0

Felt flower boquets instead of real flowers
We didn't have real flowers at our wedding either. As soon as I told my Mam, she had visions of the kind of artificial flowers my Gran used to have in her house! I tried to explain that they did infact look really life like, but she couldn't visualise it until she actually saw them, and was like "yes, they do actually look very real". Everyone who saw them thought they were fresh flowers.
Blue shoes instead of white satin
Boots with a kilt instead of ghillie brogues
I wore Converse (my parents didn't like that either, but it was either that or Dr Martens lol!)
.
We didn't have a cake either, but if we had it wouldn't have been a traditional one, as we are not that sort of people....it would have been a zombie one, with a zombie bride and groom on it! :rotfl:0 -

Never a truer word spoken, especially the last sentence!0 -

My dad said bagsie spock. Mum can be the whoopie goldberg charachters.
After a few years of accepting that that is the plan, a simple ceremony in the UK will provoke no comments!
( do fancy those wedding uggs boots that were in the bargain forum a few weeks ago)
Shame they don't still have the Star Trek exhibition in Vegas, that was awesome!0 -
