Lovely clothes
I would wear any of these, great start, You can pick a designer you like and then google high street versions of ..., you'll soon learn which shops are good for your taste and shape, you can keep an eye out for sales and shopping online with codes is a godsend, I do it a lot at H&M, which is my staple high street shop. Check out the grab it and discount code boards on here for more bargains and also hotukdeals, signing up to newsletters often gets a discount too. If you happen to have a student handy;), they get great discount's if they have a nus card or sign up to unidays.

Enjoying this thread, making notes of websites...Anyone got any tips on how to improve posture?
Good posture makes all the difference, doesn't it? Following advice from my GP (!) I do a couple of minutes with small weights most mornings and it makes me look decades younger! Seriously!
Those 2 minutes keep me standing well all day with no further effort and people say how fit (in a sporty way) I look :rotfl: if they only knew...0 -

What sort of excercises do you do?

I can always tell! With me I find more expensive clothes fit better. I think it depends on your shape. I have an hourglass shape and am petite and find very few cheap ranges tailor their clothes (i.e. no darts/shaping around bust, waist, shoulders etc). I think if you have a tall straight body then you are going to find it so much easier to find cheap clothes that look amazing. More expensive fabric also just drapes so beautifully around your body.
I think the thing that really ruins your appearance is badly fitting clothes (expensive or cheap). A woman (or man) can be dressed to the nines, but if the fabric is pulling somewhere or gaping or the person keeps having to adjust it then the outfit is killed stone dead IMO.
I completely agree. I'm also in the petite category & find most cheap clothes look cheap on me. Finding clothes that fit is a nightmare even with more petite ranges than there ever used to be.
I've not long turned 40 & feel I need a new look but I see everything as too old or too young at moment! I really struggle to find clothes that I like.
I'm aspiring to be chic, rather than glamorous!0 -
1. A good haircut and/or colour which is maintained.
2. Find 'your' colour of lipstick and stick to it.
3. Well fitting dark denim jeans and black trousers.
4. A well fitting white shirt.
5. A cashmere jumper/cardigan.
6. Nice, simple jewellery - not necessarily diamonds but 'classic' looking pieces.
7. Leather, well fitting flats.
8. A tailored mac/trench coat in a neutral colour.
9. A signature scent - preferably one that smells 'expensive'!
10. Nicely kept nails either in a neutral or french manicure.
11. A well maintained SMILE!

Hi
I am following your progress, having just turned 40 myself I am also looking to make more of an effort, I don't think I will ever be glamorous but am going to try to be more stylish.
I have done/doing
Haircut - now just need to straighten everyday
cleanse and moisturise EVERY morning and night - doing well with this one
Face peel - did my first at the weekend (there is a thread on this)
trying to wear make up every day if DS will allow me the time
brush once a week with bicarb soda (to whiten teeth)
quick squirt of perfume every time I leave the house
To do
keep nails painted
scour the charity shops to find some good label fitting clothes (can't afford new)
body brush (thanks to who mentioned this, I did this before I had ds when I had time for these things lol)
wear my jewellery, I have some nice jewellery that sits in a box. I am frightened to wear it in case I lose it but I suppose there is no point having it if no one is going to see it.0 -

Out of interest, which shops/labels are you talking about? At 40, I really feel in clothing limbo!0 -

I know what you mean about clothing limbo I am feeling the same I really think I need a change of style. I like to wear jeans and a sweatshirt/hoody its what I feel comfortable in and its me, most of my tops are 'labels' that have the name splattered over the frontfor example Abercrombie & Finch, Henleys, Animal, etc you get the idea not things a forty year old should be wearing
I used to wear trainers to complete the look  but have now starting wearing boots instead (its killing my poor feet :rotfl:)
I think I need to start looking for some smart sweatshirts/jumpers from maybe next or somewhere like that, something plain with no name over the front.
I do like the capsule wardrobe that lush posted I would wear most of that but I don't do dresses or skirts.0
