  • Have a look at Caryn Franklin's website :http://www.howtolookgood.com/

She has guides for dressing for your shape and also a guide on Ageless Style.

Thank you, I will have a look at that tonight.

This makes for interesting reading too
  • Well today I have continued on my mission to make the very best version of me. My confidence has really been knocked over the past few years but now I feel strong enough to rebuild it.

I have taken vitamins again ( my wee is positively florescent )

    Eaten sensibly

Bought some cream for the dark circles under my eyes, I am also trying to get more sleep.

Bought some fake eyelashes, I was going to get proper extensions but at £35 a go I walked away think my money is better spent elsewhere.

I also got some conditioning treatment for my hair 3 for 2 in Boots and a shine spray.

I got some black sheer tights to wear with court shoes and a cocktail dress on Saturday when I go out.

My Pilates DVD has arrived so good intentions for tomorrow.

I intend to get Glamour magazine this month as it come with free mascara and may give me some tips.

I still have lots of ideas spinning around in my head but I would welcome any thoughts from others. I will be posting as and when I do these things to keep me going. :):):)

I was once called glamorous by my doctor when I was sat there with straggly hair and no make-up, so I think glamourous is as much a state of mind as anything, but.......

For the basics, look after your skin with regards to sun protection and keep your eyebrows neatly groomed as they make a huge difference, also don't be afraid to try new colours with clothes, hair, make-up etc, ignore all the rules you have ever heard, it was drummed in to me as a child that a rosy-cheeked person could NOT wear red or hot pink, LOAD OF RUBBISH!

As for the clothes, the best way to find a new look is to go through shops grabbing whatever you like the look of, don't consider if it will suit you, just pick it up, throw it all into a changing room and try it ALL on, I do this for friends who moan about hating their clothes, I call it 'Gokking' :rotfl:

EDIT: I agree re the good haircut/colour and good bra. The haircut will make the most of your features, be brave and try something new, with the bra, if you don't want to be measured, use your current one as a guide i.e. if you are for example a 38C and the cups fit well but the back is riding up, use the simple rule of 'down a back size, up a cup size' and go to a 36D, the reverse if the back is too small, so to a 40B etc. I used this rule recently and realised I wasn't a 48D after all but a 44E!!

I agree, I am really trying to make a real effort with my hair, today I have dyed it and put a conditioning treatment on . It certainly looks much better. I have been trying to grow my hair for years but just cant get it beyond shoulder length so I will just have to accept that fact.

A point you have brought up is fake tan, I am very pale naturally. Sometime I think I look quite ill especially this time of year. I might have a little experiment and see how I get on. :)

Glamorous by your doctor !!!:eek: I bet you came out of there feeling a million dollars, what a tonic.

I love your idea of trying on lots of different styles, I have been stuck in a bit of a rut and I also think as you get older really good quality and fit would be better.

I am going to try your idea of different styles one day next week. :)

    My latest efforts are

    Shaved and plucked!

Body brushed with what looked like a dog brush with knobbly bits, it was like Chinese torture but skin feels nice.

    Hair dyed and deeply conditioned.

    Vitamins taken.

I have looked at the cover of my Pilates DVD but not got as far as taking wrapper off ( slap wrists )

Going to try and declutter some more clothes and polish all my shoes and boots to make them shiny and smart.

I have been cleaning out my wardrobe and being quite harsh while doing it. Trying to keep a balance of having stuff to wear as I very slowly build up a new one as I can afford and getting rid of stuff that doesn't fit me- is very unlikely to again and / or doesn't make me feel good! Things that make me feel like a sad sack are going. I am trying to buy pieces that I really like and fit well. Although god I can't find new cardigans that I actually like!!!
