I really would like to be more 'together' and groomed looking and try every now and again to shake myself up a bit however there are obstacles that get in my way and was wondering what advice/suggestions you all might have.
I have two small children of my own and am also a childminder, added to that I have a big hairy (shedding) dog. this all means that I need to be in comfortable clothing that isn't too precious because it WILL be covered in yoghurt, snot, dog drool, fur etc 10 minutes into my day. so basically my 'uniform' that has evolved out of necessity is skinny jeans, long sleeved top and a practical red regatta coat with a hood. my hair which is just on my shoulders usually ends up tied up to keep it off my face so I can clean/paint/lift dog poo and see what i'm doing. on my feet I am wearing converse style trainers. in colder weather I had a pair of flat brown knee length boots but with all the time I spend walking/chasing children they were falling apart within a few months (this happens every winter) and I cant afford 'decent' boots so just replace every winter with another £40ish pair. another obstacle is that I just don't have spare money to be buying new make-up or bras or shoes and clothes so I have to work with what I have.
I can do groomed and wear heels but it is only on days where I have loads of time to get dressed and do make up and when I have no children here.
any advice greatly appreciated as I haven't worked out how to pull it off yet. :-)
I know how you feel Helzbelz, I've had 4 children, been there got the T shirtI am finding that keeping to a routine with skin care and nail care is easier than I thought.
Also perhaps you can try having a quick check in the mirror before you leave the house, fix your hair, get a clothes brush or one of those roller things a bit of lip gloss and a squirt of perfume.
Good luck, even little things can make you feel better.0 -
Back on my healthy eating plan using My Fitness Pal (my goal is to permanently lose a minimum of half a stone a year by making long term tweaks and changes, so far lost 1.5 stone in 18 months)
Borrowed a friend's copy of Sean T's Rockin' Body to start this week
Started using nail strengthener every day
Committed to using a hair deep conditioning mask once a week
Committed to a home steam facial once every two weeks, with a mask every week
Bought some hair dye to blend in the greys
Started exfoliating with a scrub glove in the shower and using body lotion every day
Starting using my percussion massager on my wobbly bits
Working out how to use a tooth whitening kit I bought a while back
Minimally styling my hair each day to reduce static and frizz (which has immediately made me feel and look much better)
Thrown out any manky pants and just kept the nice ones (I can close the knicker drawer now without forcing it )
Wow what a great start. I know I am feeling better in myself, glad your're motivated, keep it up. :T:T:T0 -
I just thought I would share with you stupid things I have done.
Last night I put fake tan on, got into bed and woke up this morning with my sheets looking like the Turin shroud. :rotfl:
Painted my nails bright red this morning and spent the day gardening, I have mud under my nails :wall:
And finally, managed to scratch my arm on a bramble.
Oh the glamour of it all0 -
:rotfl:
lushplus those are exactly the type of things I do. nail varnish on then out digging in the garden= completely destroyed nails!
thank you all for really helpful responses. I do have poundland so will get down and see what make up I can get there.
am going to read back through the thread and make a plan of what I want to be doing each day and hopefully it becomes habit."it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick" - my dad, regularly throughout my childhood when I complained about something being too small/not perfect/not tasty/not what I wanted. he was right every time.0 -
Completed a day of 30 day shred... I am trying again...
Face mask on just now and it exfoliates skin also as it rubs off...
Baby oil & then baby gel rubbed into skin for hydration. Some conditioning oil on hair
It's a start....
Well done of fabbing folks every bit helps0 -

I haven't even started gardening yet this year!
I always look like hell after I've been doing it as well. Usually a burnt nose in there somewhere, done my eartips before. Dehydrated and necking water. Scruffy hair. Wearing boots. Ratty old clothes.

You will have to get all mysterious and then mention how some lovely guy had noticed how wonderful you were looking lately
I'm sure you're not a minger, probably just taken for granted a bit.0 -
Well yesterday was spent in the garden and now every muscle in my body aches... who needs pilates DVDs ?

Bought myself a face mask for tired looking skin in Aldi ( there was a choice tired or ageing.. I'm both !!! )
Eaten sensibly
Found some lovely comfortable tan wedges that look great with skinny jeans that I forgot I had.
Continuing with gradual tan lotion.
