Well I have been feeling a bit under the weather, but I am still continuing with my efforts. Yesterday I went into my local town and scoured every section in Superdrug for offers and anything I have missed. I bought a new eye liner and mascara which was buy one get second half price, hair dye, wipes and whitening toothpaste.

I have now found a perfume I love after sampling loads and am going to try and win some on ebay to save the pennies.

I had a good prowl around Zara and H&M but held off buying anything until I have sorted my clothes. Now that the sun has come out I feel I want to wear lighter coloured clothing. I did however visit a charity shop this morning and came out with a skirt, short sleeved blouse, cardigan, wide brown leather belt and a necklace for the grand total of £14.59. :T I feel like a hunter gatherer.

I also asked in a hairdressers about extensions, a surly teenager said "yeah there about £600, and there's no one here to talk to you"...... I won't be returning.

I tried on some sunglasses too and think I have found some that suit, but again holding off until I have a second opinion with me

I am on the lookout for a large mirror that I can stand on my windowsill. I am finding that putting makeup on in daylight gives better results.

I hate feeling ill, I eat rubbish then feel rubbish. Bit of a vicious circle.... must try harder :):):)
  • What make up did you buy? I have found an amazing mascara if your not happy with yours, after years and years of searching. Try clip in extensions first before going the whole hog, especially the 3/4 wigs , I don't wear them anymore but they have allowed me to grow my own hair to waist length from a bob with no pain. They cost around £30, I only ever wore synthetic for moral reasons from this site http://www.wonderlandwigs.com/ or this site http://www.wiwigs.co.uk/, well done on the charity shop shopping, sounds great :), TK Maxx have some amazing sunglasses in atm, I just bought huge very black Chloe ones.

Hope you feel better soon :)

I bought a Rimmel mascara, but what is your amazing one? Please tell :)
I had a look at the sites you recommended, I loved the tutorials that showed you how to put them on. I am going to visit a local salon suppliers next week and see if they can recommend some clip ins. Hopefully they can colour match well and show me how to use.:):):)

Its this http://www.superdrug.com/loreal/loreal-paris-telescopic-mascara-extra-black/invt/381963, I also liked Maybelline illegal lengths when I was trying products out. I use this along with Miss Manga for volume but really the telescopic is amazing on its own, it lengthens a lot, I've never used another product like it and on the second coat gives volume too, I use about 4 coats haha :) The brush is so precise, I can now see lashes I haven't seen for years, seriously it catches and coats even the fairest thinnest lashes, especially on the bottom and because the brush is so thin the product doesn't end up all over your face like as it does with a fat brush. It doesn't go crispy and it doesn't move in most conditions. Its easy to remove with Boots essential eye make up remover and its very very black. On the negative it hates water, including watery eyes, they do have a waterproof version but I don't like waterproof mascara so I haven't tried it.

The second site I recommended had my favourite products as they came with extra clips and they always arrived the next day even if I ordered in the afternoon, happy hair shopping ;)

this is a really useful thread.

I really would like to be more 'together' and groomed looking and try every now and again to shake myself up a bit however there are obstacles that get in my way and was wondering what advice/suggestions you all might have.

I have two small children of my own and am also a childminder, added to that I have a big hairy (shedding) dog. this all means that I need to be in comfortable clothing that isn't too precious because it WILL be covered in yoghurt, snot, dog drool, fur etc 10 minutes into my day. so basically my 'uniform' that has evolved out of necessity is skinny jeans, long sleeved top and a practical red regatta coat with a hood. my hair which is just on my shoulders usually ends up tied up to keep it off my face so I can clean/paint/lift dog poo and see what i'm doing. on my feet I am wearing converse style trainers. in colder weather I had a pair of flat brown knee length boots but with all the time I spend walking/chasing children they were falling apart within a few months (this happens every winter) and I cant afford 'decent' boots so just replace every winter with another £40ish pair. another obstacle is that I just don't have spare money to be buying new make-up or bras or shoes and clothes so I have to work with what I have.

I can do groomed and wear heels but it is only on days where I have loads of time to get dressed and do make up and when I have no children here.

any advice greatly appreciated as I haven't worked out how to pull it off yet. :-)
"it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick" - my dad, regularly throughout my childhood when I complained about something being too small/not perfect/not tasty/not what I wanted. he was right every time. :D

LushPlus - what have you started!

After my post from the other day, I've had a hard look at myself and am shocked how much I've let myself go. I'm now:
Back on my healthy eating plan using My Fitness Pal (my goal is to permanently lose a minimum of half a stone a year by making long term tweaks and changes, so far lost 1.5 stone in 18 months)
Borrowed a friend's copy of Sean T's Rockin' Body to start this week
Started using nail strengthener every day
Committed to using a hair deep conditioning mask once a week
Committed to a home steam facial once every two weeks, with a mask every week
Bought some hair dye to blend in the greys
Started exfoliating with a scrub glove in the shower and using body lotion every day
Starting using my percussion massager on my wobbly bits
Working out how to use a tooth whitening kit I bought a while back
Minimally styling my hair each day to reduce static and frizz (which has immediately made me feel and look much better)
Thrown out any manky pants and just kept the nice ones (I can close the knicker drawer now without forcing it :T)

    Helzbelz

I have three furballs and attack all three regularly with a brush and Furminator to help reduce the amount of fur they leave behind everywhere. While not perfect its a lot better than it was and I'm not left with sheets of fur across my clothes. Just a quick flick off with a clothes brush or bit of sellotape.

What about streamlining your make-up routine so you can do it in a couple of minutes, such as tinted moisturiser (mixing some of your foundation with your usual moisturiser), a bit of long-lasting mascara just on the top lashes and some tinted lipgloss?

Also, you could experiment with different ways of putting your hair up quickly. I used to have a gorgeous hairband with a big blowsy rose on it, so when I put my hair up I looked a bit glam even though it was a bog standard ponytail. Maybe a smidge of hairspray to keep it all smooth and in place during the day...?

Keeping your shoes really well polished looks good. When I couldn't afford to replace shoes and boots, I used to superglue them back together, file off the rough bits from the rubber heels and soles and give them a good polish. I regularly colour in a pair of black suede heels with a marker pen and brush the nap up to keep them going a bit longer.

Well done you on committing to this whilst looking after all those children. I only have one and I am finding it hard.

Do you have a poundland near you? They have brand name make up in there, you wont get everything you want on one visit but if you keep checking back you will build up a stash. Nearly all my make up comes from poundland and its all good names :)

As others have said putting your hair up in a ponytail is fine, just add a nice hair clip / bobble etc.
