That's still expensive to what it used to be :(. You could get a decent sized tin of non-branded corned beef for about 49p from most of the big supermarkets not so long ago.

Ah well, such is life and inflation  .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Yeah, I'm not paying 80p for a tin of corned beef, I'm sure it was only 50p two years ago.

Damned oil prices and Argentina being too far away.

Best I have found so far unfortunately. Just going to use less beef and more beans this time. Saying that they have gone up too!

    My CBH

    Swede (and layer on bottom),
next, in goes the corned beef then mash tattie on top
    cover with grated cheese
and bang it in the oven.

    YUMMY! :p
But first, the most asked question:

Q "Is anything worn under your kilt???"

A "No. Everything is in perfect working order Thank You!!."

This is how I make it

Boil and mash pots add corn beef , then I layer it up with baked beans on the bottom of the dish, fried onions next then the pots and beef mix and finally grated cheese and some sliced toms. If I'm missing an ingrediant I just leave it out.

    HTH

Been meaning to try corned beef hash for ages and ages - followed Joannanum's recipe apart from tomato slices cos I didn't have any and it was absolutely delicious scrummy etc etc etc :D:D:D

Kids loved it (ds 2yo wanted more!! :)) OH loved it even though he doesn't like baked beans - definitely definitely going to do it again soon.

    Thankyou thankyou thankyou :T MC
You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an
"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs :p :rotfl:
  • Curry Queen's post on this thread ... "I do yet a different version using diced pre-boiled potatoes then stir-fry these in a little olive oil with a chopped onion ... add the cubed corned beef and a tin of baked beans and heat through" inspired my own version of CBH (without the baked beans though...)

I saute a sliced onion in a tiny bit of olive oil until it is nice and caramelised, meanwhile am boiling 2 largish potatoes cut into 1 inch dice for about 10 mins. Once the potatoes are done I add them to the onion (you may want to add some more olive oil at this point, although I add water as am trying to watch my fat intake) and saute for another 2-3 mins. At this point I add a tin of corned beef, chopped into 1 inch dice and continue cooking until the corned beef is warmed through.

Perfect, served with lashings of tomato ketchup, and enough to serve 2-3 or 3-4 if you serve with veg.
  • Hi can any one help me. I'm from the North east and we used to make a corn beef dish which was called (and I don't know if this is the right spelling cause I've never seen it written down!) panacklety. this was basically a corn beef stew cooked either in the oven or on top. potatoes, corn beef onions and often carrots were layer to go in the oven or it was all thrown into a sausepan and cooked on top. Does anyone elase know about this or if the spelling is right.
    Thanks
