So if people ardnt strong enough they shouldn't post for help on MSE?
MSE help boards are there for people when they need help, otherwise they are not help boards, they are discussion boards -all of them.
You mentioned people generally have other stuff going on in their life and I agree with that.
I didnt actually say that if people werent strong enough they shouldnt post, what I said was, people need to be clear that they are strong enough to deal with the disagreements.
There have been times in my life where I could not have started a thread on a forum and quite recently as well, because I was going through so much on a day to day basis I just couldnt have taken the risk of being upset by someones words on a screen.
And I appreciate some people will come on here and be in absolute despair over something.
But someone asking if they are silly for being upset that a daughter is going to call their child after another grandmother and not them doesnt strike me as being something that would be the last straw for someone.
Yes, there could be 1001 other things that are going on in someones life, but we dont know, you dont know until someone tells you. The OP has hinted at it but wont elaborate on what else is wrong.
I honestly would not start a thread on a few forums on this board if I were not capable of people disagreeing with me and sometimes quite strongly, people only need to look at previous threads to see sometimes there can be disagreements
Having said that, I do think on the whole, posters post on this section of the forum for positive reasons.
Also, sometimes hearing stuff that you really do not want to hear can sometimes be the best thing in the long run, because when you step back and look at something objectively, you might thank people for not just agreeing with everything youve said, you might actually give yourself a slap, say Im being really daft about this and move on.0 -
Thank you again for those that supported me, and to those that dont, I hope that they learn to be more tolerant.
You start a thread because you have got a bee in your bonnet about your daughter giving her baby her MILs name. You state that you feel hurt and snubbed by this totally normal and reasonable thing that your daughter is planning to do. Then when posters do not support your view you say they should learn to be more tolerant.

I totally see your point & I agree, but the "honest" posts can still be pleasant & mannered.
I see from above posts have been deleted, is this because they have been reported for being rude or people have thought better of what they said & deleted them themselves.0 -

i don't think you can delete a whole post yourself on this forum? you can delete the content by edit, but the post itself still remains in its original place.0 -

Actually it's Buttercup:D
Yes it's Daisy. I wanted her to have that as a first name (it wasn't quite as popular then as it's become) but DH was dead against it. Until she was about six months old and then he piped up "I wish we'd called her Daisy now" at which point I nearly beat him to death! <joke>
Having said that, if she'd have been born 25 minutes later then the plan was that she'd have had "May" as a middle name because she'd have been born on the 1st of May. Boy am I glad that didn't happen looking back!I'm not prepared to keep quite while people queue up to repeatedly labour the same thing to one person.
Its cyber bullying & there is far too much of it on a help website:(
Cyber bullying? On this thread? Get real Mrs E!!!:rotfl::rotfl:
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
No I dont think you can, you can edit out everything thats been said but not delete, if posts have been deleted I imagine mods or admin (dont know the difference) have done it.0

I'm afraid I don't see the problem here. The only people who matter when it comes to naming a child are the parents. They, always, are the ones who have the right to decide. Any 'advice' they receive can be ignored with impunity.
I remember when my daughter was born, OH's parents were quite determined that if it was a girl she should have a certain name, which I hated. After the birth, cards, flowers and teddies arrived bearing this name. They were quite indignant when they found the name wasn't being used. So I just calmly pointed out that it was our daughter and we would call her what we liked. The subject never got mentioned again.0 -

Or it could just be that people read the first post and reply with their opinion before reading the rest of the replies.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
