    Talking of cats...

...I was talking to someone yesterday who said she'd named her son Theo after the cat she'd had as a girl. I wonder what her relatives thought of that, lol!

I named a kitten after my Nan, he was born a couple of weeks after she died.

  • Naming after living people was something OH and I had to discuss in detail when our son was born. I wanted to give him my Dad's name as a middle name, and OH was horrified and thought that my Dad would be horribly insulted and how rude it was.

I was puzzled - we discussed it, and it turned out that among Israelis, you never name a child after an older relative who is still alive, it is apparently the equivalent of implying strongly that they don't need the name any more and you are measuring them up for a coffin, rather than it being a nice gesture. So if you use a relative's name for a new baby, it's only a relative that's already dead.

I did point out that my next sister and I were both named after (middle names) grandmother who were hale and hearty at the time of our births, but even so, I think OH was glad when my Dad did indeed take it as a compliment, and not an insult.

Maybe the cat belonging to the other Granny is having a tantrum about it (-:

We couldn't think of a suitable name for our last kitten so my teenage DS asked his friends on Facebook for suggestions. The winning suggestion came from a female classmate, we all liked it. But DS's then girlfriend threw an absolute hissy fit that her suggestion had been rejected, and for that of another girl! One reason she's now an ex girlfriend, I suspect. And no, DS didn't have any interest whatsoever in the other girl.

  • Kittens can be tricky - when our cat had 4 kittens when we were children, each of the 4 of us chose one name. Unfortunately, it turned out that our sexing of them had one error, so one became Catherine-the-boy......

Ever heard the saying - a daughter's a daughter for all her life, a son is a son until he takes a wife?

If you're close to your daughter you will be able to be close to your grandaughter.

    Whatever happens!

    I agree with this ... :)

I am sorry you feel low about this Debsue, and I may well feel the same,. BUT DON'T FEEL BLUE. :(

As some people have mentioned, you have grandchildren by daughters, and so you'll be a bit closer to them than the other grandma.

Have you thought debsue, that maybe they are doing this, because your daughter and partner knows this, (that you will be the closer grandparent,) and they may be using her name as the middle name, as consolation?

NO you're not being silly at all. I believe that many people would feel the same.

Don't let it worry you though hun :A

I have never heard of people giving pets middle names before. Did she use both names to call it to heel when out on walks? The dog that is, not the child.

We had a cat that had a litter of four kittens once - one of them started off as Frank but became Frankie when he became a she! Another one was named after my auntie, because she was a tabby (the cat not my Auntie!) and had a black "M" on her forehead, so as my auntie's name started with M that's what we called her. She was adopted by another lady who re-named her Jenny.

(this is a better off topic than the "cyber bullying" off topic )

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
