Back from my midwife appointment. Took my husband along for the first time as he fancied hearing the heartbeat (hasn't heard it since 20 week scan)

All went well; baby gave the midwife an almighty kick whilst she was doing the heartbeat! Still on 95th percentile for fundal height apparently but the midwife said it was terribly inaccurate. Still at this point seeing consistent growth is a good sign for baby so I'm going to rock that 95th centile...!

Also I forgot to ask (as my midwife chats at 100 miles an hour) but saw it my notes that head is 2/5 palpable which I assume means 3/5 engaged! Three weeks ago it was marked as free so that would explain the markedly increased pelvic pressure / bladder urges over the past couple of weeks! Hoping it means I won't be waiting too long for d-day but a quick Google the other day suggests early engagement has no correlation to the start of labour. But I like to think it's a good sign!

Glad midwife went well snow. And nice your OH came along. It's worth getting him to try listening to heartbeat with his ear to your bump- my OH can always hear it that way and does it several times a day. It works best if you're lying down.

I had anxious labour dreams last night that felt very real- but I think it's because I was feeling nervous about OH going to London today for a meeting. Think he was equally anxious leaving me! But he's back tonight and all seems OK. I'm getting into the flow of maternity leave now. I'm trying to do one thing every day out of the house (so appointment or social thing), some housework and a nap. I saw a friend last night for tea and was really pleased to hear she was 16 weeks pregnant- I had suspected she was, and it'll be nice to have overlapping maternity leaves with her.
Physio for me this morning. She's given me some more exercises and did another treatment. Next appointment is 2 days before EDD so I'm hoping I won't be able to make it! Popped into town after and got some bits for my friend on bed rest- some body moisturiser and spray from boots (used points), mindful colouring book and colouring pencils, sudoku and criss-cross books and a nice pen, and some chocolate buttons. So I'll write her a little note and post it tomorrow. Am due to pop into work tomorrow to give back my laptop- feels so much longer than 2 weeks since i finished!

I've just been to mothercare for a click and collect order. Some bits for my hospital bag and a playmat. Picked up a cheap bouncer for bean while there too and a couple of toys- some textured cube thingies and a wrap that goes round the handle on the pram etc

Veryvery busy bean last night apart from any time when OH put his hand on tummy or speaks to bean. So let's hope he has that influence in ~10 weeks!
    Quite a few BH today

Minded to go and see what I have for hospital bag this evening and what i'm missing. Bean's is all done

    Morning,
    Glad midwife went well snow.
I too am thinking of trying the sling library, don't want to spend the money and it then not be right.
Penguin what a lovely idea to send some gifts to your friend on bed rest. I hope time doesn't go too slowly for her.

Hen do this weekend but its a spa so although I can't use everything I think I can cope haha. Got a facial booked with the package so hopefully I'll be nice and relaxed when I come back.
Off for the scan today to check the placenta, here is hoping it has moved. I suppose if it hasn't and I require c-section least i'll know when babys arrival will be (trying to look at the positives)
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

Hope the scan goes well Newthrift! I had the same and my placenta had moved 2cm clear - it doesn't need to be much And 95% of the time it does, so fingers crossed x

Good luck with the scan Newthrift - mine had moved right clear, and apparently about 95% of them so, do hopefully you are one of the 95% :)

My midwife was running 40 minutes late last night, so was pretty fed up by the time I finally got in to see her. She did go through some stuff about labour/birth plan, but it was a bit 'brain dump' from her, without a huge amount of discussion. She also doesn't know anything about the hospital we've chosen (different area), so not the most useful!

Notes said 1/5 head palpable, which I assume means baby started to engage - not looking forward to 5/5, as having quite enough bladder pressure issues as it is  Baby seemed to have permanent hiccups yesterday, which was fine until I was trying to get to sleep - impossible when your tummy is involuntarily moving all over the place!

Good luck with the scan newthrift!

firebird082, I could be wrong but I think 1/5 palpable is equivalent to 4/5 engaged - i.e. only 1/5 of the head could be felt above the pelvis. My notes this week said 3/5 palpable so I'm in a similar boat. Can anyone further along confirm??

And bladder pressure issues - tell me about it!! I normally drink tons of water but don't need to go to the loo all that often and can always make it through the night. Last 2 weeks I have not made it through the night once, plus I'm needing to go more often during the day. The general pelvic pressure even when I've just emptied my bladder is worsening too... I really hope it's not a long wait once I start maternity leave!

Actually, I think it just said 1/5 without confirming palpable or engaged. A bit of googling says midwives use it both ways (why?! Just settle on a system!!) and to ask, but of course I didn't see it until I was having a look at home afterwards...

It's plausible that it's 1/5 palpable though for you - as I have gone from free (i.e. 5/5 palpable to 2/5 palpable - and palp was specified on my notes) and you're a week ahead of me! Am currently in Pret for lunch and actually dreading the 200yd walk back to the office as my pelvic pressure was so bad walking here half an hour ago! Felt like the baby was going to drop out! Absolutely fine sitting down though. I foresee a further reduction in time spent upright...
