I've had a caboo leant by a friend and it is lovely and cocooning for newborns, however my OH isn't really a fan (it's not very "manly") and there is also a LOT of material which a) gets in the way a bit and b) is VERY warm on sunnier days. Clara has had to be in it in literally a vest and it's only May, although she is a warm baby.

I've hired a Connecta from an online sling library (it's a sling thing I think it's called) and I'm a big fan. It's got buckles etc so the OH prefers it but is also still lovely and cosy for little one. Plus her head seems a bit more supported.

Online libraries are good if you don't have one near you, plus you could order a hire as soon as baby arrives.

Stretchy wraps or the close caboo are great for newborns but I wouldn't worry too much about getting one in advance, we didn't use ours straight away. If you have a local sling library you should find tons there.

Don't stress about getting ready, they need wayyy less than everybody tells you. As long as you've got a few essentials the rest isn't all that important at all.

Another one waiting to use the local sling library. Another thing to consider is if you have a C section (hopefully not) it might not be comfy for a few weeks. One of the nct mums said yesterday she wants to use a sling as it would suit her with the dog plus baby likes to just lie on her, but when she's tried them on they've not felt comfortable yet- she's 4.5 weeks post-c. My local library also does a free loan of a stretchy wrap (think it's the hana) for the first 6 weeks.

Another one for the sling library. A few of the mums to be from NCT either have or looking at the Caboo but my OH isn't that keen. Only downside with the sling library is that the OH won't get a chance to be there to try them on, oh well.

Aww Penguin, I met with my NCT ones last Friday, and there was 1 baby there. She was sooo small. So eager for my one now to arrive.

Some seriously nice weather today, and yesterday. I can't wait for Friday to roll around now so I can hopefully enjoy some of it. Knowing my luck, the rain and snow will make a reappearance :rotfl:

I was like that last week- seriously miffed that the weather was so cold and rubbish, much happier with it this week although yesterday afternoon I struggled getting too hot. Had a mini-meltdown about my phone not working, then the hoover stopped working and I felt super sweaty just walking upstairs. OH has said we need to do hypnobirthing tonight as my anxiety is definitly increasing.

Another one intending to make use of the local sling library after baby's arrival - luckily it's run in conjunction with the local NCT bumps and babies group, so I'll probably go along and meet some people when I start mat leave. Happily, the friend I saw at the weekend has given us one of the long fabric wrap ones, so I do have something to try straight away - think it might be quite warm for a summer baby though! I wouldn't have bought one pre-baby though, think it's better to try first.

NCT class last night was quite good - 6 couples, so a nice size group. Due dates are scattered through July and into August mostly, so I'm the first in June :p Because we've already done the hypnobirthing, we were quite familiar with a lot of the stuff she covered this week, but I think there will be some more useful stuff coming up over the next few weeks.

Friend's partner at the weekend said me and OH were the most chilled expectant parents he'd ever met. Personally, I just don't think anything has sunk in properly yet :rotfl: 6 weeks to go, so surely it will have to sink it soon

Have any of you ladies further along been told baby is engaging? I'm having no issues with heartburn or breathlessness; but pelvic pressure is steadily increasing... I suppose it might be bump getting bigger but I'm wondering if baby is starting to descend :O

I've read online that this does happen earlier for first timers and has no correlation to labour starting so not worried about it. Also had a short spell of period like pains earlier today, which was just like the feeling I had 6 weeks ago which turned out to be baby turning head down. Hmmmm...

Went to Mothercare to get last few bits for hospital bag at the weekend. So now we officially have everything we need and it's just a matter of getting packed! Also spent a lot of time this weekend having a sort out of the multitude of "stuff" hanging around in our house in drawers, on surfaces etc. All clutter. Threw out quite a lot and also ordered some storage with plans for everything that we didn't throw out. So really starting to feel that house is in better shape now. Have also cleaned all but one of our carpets now in the last couple of weeks. Just the spare bedroom to gown which we can do this weekend coming.

Outside work is preceding well. Got rid of the ghastly asbestos concrete garage and replaced with shiny new shed (more storage! - garage wasn't well sealed and stuff used to get damp in there so not much use for storage). Now they are digging up our front garden so we have space for more cars and better manoeuvrability which will be a godsend when baby arrives. We live on a really fast and dangerous country road so the more space we have on our driveway the better I will feel!

Missed our antenatal class yesterday - sad that the course has finished! Having a lot of "giving birth" dreams now; some pretty weird; others plausible!

At my last midwife appt (36+2) baby still hadn't engaged. My mum tells me that my older brother didn't at all until she was induced a week or so over. I have felt more pressure on my pelvis though, so maybe he has now, although people keep commenting that my bump hasn't dropped yet- it has been very high all pregnancy. I have noticed in the last week that I've had a few moments of my hip going weak and not being able to weight bear.it only lasts a few moments but probably happens at least once a day. I have physio tomorrow so going to ask about it.

I've been productive this morning and emailed local nurseries! It feels far too early as I'm off for 12 months, and I have no idea what hours I'll do when I go back, but I thought I better start looking.

At my last appt (34+2) I was told baby was head down & engaged, 3/5 is what I think was on my notes. She did say this could all very well change. I have noticed over the past week or so my bump has dropped, which is a godsend in terms of breathing but has meant I've been getting increasingly more pressure down below. Last night was an actual !!!!!! for it. Nothing was easing it.

Glad to hear everything is coming together Snow.

Its never to early in terms of nurseries Penguin, even to just get a scope of what it is like in your area. I've already been to see a couple and this was back in March.

Firebird I'm with you on it not feeling quite real yet. The pregnancy, yes but not the actual I could have a baby at home in the next month or so. OH also commenting that it doesn't quite feel real yet, especially when he was asked if the nerves have kicked in. I'm still very much meh right now. So we shall see how that goes once I go on maternity.

You've all been super productive! I really need to get my bag packed for going away this weekend at 36 weeks.

At my last midwife appointment two weeks ago, she said that the baby felt breech - after having been head down for weeks! If she hasn't moved, I think they'll send me for another scan...

One of my friends has given me a stretchy wrap and an ergobaby to try - definitely easier for dads to try it at this stage :D

I'm feeling very chilled too, but I think it's exactly the same reason. It's mad to think baby will be here anytime from 10 days to 6 weeks!
