I've packed an old strappy nightie that I kept from before I lost weight (3 stone before pregnancy) so it still fits over my bump and is big over my boobs. I will wear it to give birth in, pulling it down for skin to skin, and then throw it out.

For hospital/afterwards nightwear I have 3x nursing vest tops to wear with PJ bottoms I already own, a nightshirt from mothercare which has buttons on (been wearing as maternity as well) and an M&S one that has built in support and flappy top bits. (£5 in the sale!)

I haven't got any witch hazel... oooops. Hopefully it's too late now as I should be in tomorrow.

  • Emz that is exactly what I intend on doing re the nightie :)

I didn't really know about witch hazel and my friend who gave birth last year didn't mention it so I don't think it's a must, probably more a nice-to-have item, so don't worry about it :)

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight xxx

Thank you. I'm half considering just turning up and sitting in the corridor until they let me in!!! Hubby says he won't take me in though... spoilsport.

I've bought a cheap nightie with poppers on. I'm hoping for a water birth so packed a bikini top but I'm thinking more for wearing afterwards in the hospital, or if I can't have a water birth.

At home I expect I'll be in vest tops & shorts like I am now, I don't like sleeping in nighties.

This must be a question asked a lot but where has everyone found their nighties? I also thought that an old big men's shirt would do the same thing if that was a cheaper option. I'm just after anything that covers up what dignity I will have left but has easy access when baby is born! :rotfl:
  • Ooh Cholla I like the idea of a big mans shirt! Way more my style! Lol! My uncle is tall and rotund, I'll see if he has any cast offs!

Fingers crossed for you Emz x

I tried the Doppler yesterday, and loved it! It took a few minutes (mostly as there was no box or instructions so I had the volume set wrong!). I found my heartbeat first, then the cord/placenta/vein (I have anterior placenta), then baby! :D (Right where I'd first looked but when I had the settings wrong!) It tells you heart rate speed so I had tech confirmation of what my ears were hearing.

I'm not sure if baby liked being poked or not, but it began kicking and when I stopped I saw my belly move for the first time!!:j

    - but I'm rather confused about my husbands reaction if I'm honest. I did the above while he was at work, in case it was broken. But he wasn't fussed to try again when he was home.
The other day when I felt baby move & kick I took his hand and put it on my belly but he took it away about 5 seconds later as he couldn't feel it! I said it hadn't moved just then but he wandered off.
Last night I put his hand on my bump again, but he took it away saying he'd sooner hold his book 2handed :(
He was, if I'd admit it, more into the idea of a baby than me (less to give up), so what's changed? I know when we were facing scary downs test results (1:30) he stopped saying hi or rubbing my tummy, but the Amnio said no serious genetic issues... Can I help him bond or is this normal? should I leave him be?

I got my button down nighties from m&s, so not that cheap but when on an offer. But plan to wear afterwards too. Also if you end up with a section you might not want pj trousers/ shorts near your wound.

  • I'm not getting one with buttons or poppers. I'm simply going to slide the straps down my arms and push the top of the nightie down slightly when baby is born. I don't intend on leaving the hospital with the nighties, they will be thrown away before we go home because if I end up using them they'll have blood and god knows what else on, so it's not for a long term breastfeeding solution - that's why they're just on my hospital bag list - not on my long term baby breastfeeding list!!

I don't really want to be walking around a delivery room wearing just a pj top and nothing on my bottom, even if it is our own private room, in a nightie it will cover my modesty somewhat keeping me feeling comfortable as possible and still enable me to give birth and have skin contact and breast feed. All bases covered!

Thanks for your suggestion, but I think you missed the point somewhat of what my list was!!
You had said, "A couple of nightdresses - so when baby is born I can breastfeed easily etc" and all I said was that I'd always found pyjamas easier to breastfeed in. It wasn't a suggestion, just a statement of my experience in case it was helpful. I'm sorry it wasn't of use to you but there's no need to have a huge rant at me just because what I said is not relevent to you because I didn't work out from that one sentence exactly what your plans were.

I didn't get a Doppler but every time I've had a midwife check me the baby kicks so I don't think she likes it I wonder if it makes a noise or something she doesn't like.

My DH will sometimes be really interested in trying to feel the baby and other times he'd rather be watching netflix on his iPad! but I know he's really excited so I don't take it personally. I think men are just weird sometimes!

I'd just ask him if there was a reason he was being a bit off, don't sit there wondering :)

I got a nightie in the debenhams sale.
