Emz that's so awful I would be making a right fuss if I were you :(

Chelsea I wouldn't worry I haven't put my hospital bag together either. I do have about 80% of the stuff I need for it, but I haven't a hope of putting it together yet as it's all in separate bags under about 6 foot of stuff in the spare room in preparation for our house move.....grrr.

I think for the hospital bag I still need to get:
Witch hazel gel - think I've managed to ascertain that this is for healing...down below?
More big pants - I stupidly brought a pack of white ones. I think I need some black ones!
A couple of nightdresses - so when baby is born I can breastfeed easily etc
    Nursing bra
Travel size deodorant and face wipes
New pads for the TENS machine my friend has lent me - does anyone know if the tens machines all take standard sized pads? Hers is a boots one that isn't available anymore but I don't know if I can just buy standard pads and plug them in!

And I think that's it, the rest of the stuff I've got already! I just can't get to it to pack the bags! Lol!

Apart from fairly recently when I've sometimes been wearing a maternity nightie I've always breastfed in pyjamas and I'd say pyjamas are far more convenient.
  • With a nightie I sort of figured if I don't end up getting my water birth I can just wear the nightie to give birth so I can do skin to skin contact straight away and then breastfeed without having to change out of the nightie...so that was my reasoning behind it rather than pjs :)

Surely if it's a button down nightie, BF will be just as easy/convenient as PJ's?

After 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j

And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!
  • That's what I figured, I was going to get a nightie with straps, not sleeves, so I could give birth in it if for any reason I can't in the water pool, and then they can be cleaning me up down below whilst I have the baby on my chest for skin to skin and breastfeeding etc. I just figured a loose dark coloured nightie with straps would be perfect for this sort of thing?

A pyjama top just lifts up and down - much easier than having to fiddle about with buttons or poppers and whilst it's tolerable when doing it once a day feeding a toddler, I wouldn't want to be having all that faff when establishing breastfeeding a newborn and feeding umpteen times a day. But maybe that's just me.
  • I'm not getting one with buttons or poppers. I'm simply going to slide the straps down my arms and push the top of the nightie down slightly when baby is born. I don't intend on leaving the hospital with the nighties, they will be thrown away before we go home because if I end up using them they'll have blood and god knows what else on, so it's not for a long term breastfeeding solution - that's why they're just on my hospital bag list - not on my long term baby breastfeeding list!!

I don't really want to be walking around a delivery room wearing just a pj top and nothing on my bottom, even if it is our own private room, in a nightie it will cover my modesty somewhat keeping me feeling comfortable as possible and still enable me to give birth and have skin contact and breast feed. All bases covered!

Thanks for your suggestion, but I think you missed the point somewhat of what my list was!!

  • Thanks mysecretalias! I was wondering what I should get, and I completely see where you are coming from & why so I'll get a couple of nighties too. And as you say they will almost certainly be chucked out I'll look in charity shops too. (Money is tight due to my redundancy plus it seems that there is a bit of hope for Meg, at a cost)

  • Yep I was going to look in primark or something, since they aren't going to be re-used I don't really want to spend much on them. Asda might do some cheap ones too?

I was also going to buy them in a couple of sizes up so they are nice and loose and more comfy that way :)
