'Fred' - Frederick Nathaniel
Born at 11:12am - 6lb 2 oz
She woke me to say her waters had broken at 1am. Contractions had already been happening at 11pm but she hadn't told me!
They were frequent 3 minutes apart but quite short.
Phoned labour ward - told to wait til later in the morning.
30 minutes later
Contractions stronger and lasting longer - lasting 30-50 seconds.
Phoned - told to wait.
Contractions lasting over a minute - with 1-2 minutes inbetween.
Phoned again - told to come in but only because she said she wasn't sure about his movements.
In the hospital she was still being told that we'd be sent home straight away after checking the heartbeat. Because first time labours always last forever!
Until they finally examined her and she was 4cm dilated.
This was at 4am.
We moved on to the labour ward. She was given gas and air. Unfortunately the birthing pool was in use.
Anyway 4 hours later when they did the next scheduled check - she was 9cm dilated. They were really surprised at how quickly she managed that.
I was too, I thought it would have been quite slow progress because she wasn't making enough of a fuss for it to be that far along.
Her contractions slowed when it got to the pushing faze. But the babies heart get having sudden drops. So they didn't want to hold off and encouraged active pushing.
She was doing well but because her contractions were so far apart he kept sinking back in before she had another chance to push.
Doctor had instruments ready to use but didn't need to. She managed a big push at the very end and out came the head.
Cord was wrapped three times around his head
She did need a cut and stitches. But she's doing great. Vey happy but tired.
He's having his blood sugar and temperature checked because he's so small.
They were low but hopefully they'll go up after he's had some good feeds. Need to keep him warm.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,0000 -
Wow, that's nice and quick Freddie. huge congratulations. I hope you have a nice amount of time off now to enjoy your little one.
my waters went at 1 am too, but by 3 am the following morning I still hadn't had him! it does make me laugh though that they try and send you home as 'first births take ages'- everyone is different, plus for me the pain was too much and I needed gas and air by the second time we went in.0 -
Massive congratulations to you Freddie!
So glad that everything went smoothly and you're all doing well. Enjoy your new bundle! :j0 -

Bloody hell I check back after one day and another tiny human has been born!
Congrats to you both Freddie & Mrs - hope they're both doing well and you're soaking up the newborn smell and getting plenty of cuddles - purely for temperature regulating purposes of course!

Congratulations Freddie! Glad to hear Mrs Freddie and junior are doing well. :j
Ah the old 'first labours take ages' chestnut. They sent me home at 1am as I was 2cm. 4-5 hours later I go back in screaming and unable to walk already at 9cm. By that point gas and air couldn't help. I've told OH to actually measure the distance between my contractions this time as clearly I'm in no state to once I get that far along to know we should be off to hospital!!!! The trick is not to go in too early the first time as they send you home, but don't let them stop you going in once you think you need to be there.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0
