  • Beckyy. It may well just suddenly happen. It caught us both unawares we had no inkling at all that it would start when it did.

He's doing great. Was crying last night full on after I left, she tried everything but wouldn't calm down. In the end he just needed to do a massive poop over himself and mummy - that made him feel much better.

She actually got some sleep on and off last night.

Had some trouble who feeding just early morning. He wasn't doing a wide enough mouth - just doing very small almost kissy sucks which gave her a blister on one nipple. He was doing the same thing when I arrived but with a little help from me just to reposition him and strip down to nappy he perked up and got a nice big mouthful.

She's doing really well with it. Much easier today now she's slept.

I think we might be set free after lunchtime today

Cheers Freddie. Glad to hear they might bothget home today, that's great news!

I've been reading a book called Miskin Method on BF and found it really, informative. It's quite a light book with lots on positions, troubleshooting and problems. How to implement routines (or not) and generally what to expect. The reviews on amazon were great too. Maybe worth a read for anybody BFing or planning to: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Breastfeeding-Made-Easy-step---step/dp/178504012X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475319985&sr=8-1&keywords=miskin+method

One of my friends swore by nipple shields with her first and was able to breastfeed for ages, without them she wouldn't have been able to breastfeed, so it may be worth looking into Freddie if Mrs Freddie finds he keeps giving her blisters.

Fingers crossed you are allowed home at lunchtime, I wouldn't wish an extended stay on anyone!! Can't believe though that we have been home two weeks today and Seb is almost three weeks.

I have no idea how, but I've just weighed myself and I actually weigh less than I did pre pregnancy!! I was a little bit over weight anyway but it's definitely been a confidence boost! Especially as I thought as I wasn't able to breastfeed there was no chance of burning off enough calories to lose weight!! Only annoying thing is I can't wear my skinny jeans as its too sore at the moment with my scar!!

Huge congrats Freddie!! So pleased for you both.

I use nipple shields with Lenny, not due to pain but due to my nipples being inverted. Almost 8 weeks on I'm still using them with no issues and my little pudding is 12lbs already! X

  • Anyone using/have used a side sleeper like Chicco next2me?

Fred won't sleep at night unless he's on/next to us in bed. Whenever we try to put him down in his crib or the carrycot he lasts a maximum of 2 minutes before he becomes unsettled and starts crying.

He will sleep in his carrycot during the day. He slept for 1 hour yesterday in it + 1 hour on me + 1 more hour. Only wish he could manage that at night.

He slept well last night - but only because we were both so exhausted that we kept falling asleep with him in bed.

We'd started trying to put him in crib but that wasn't working - he had a long string of feeds, I'd taken him downstairs and pushed him in his pram hoping he might drift off. Kept checking nappy etc.
OH nodded off mid feed. After I took him from her after the last feed - I popped him down on the bed between us - planning to try him in the crib again once he'd been asleep for a while - but I fell asleep.

Luckily I'd moved the bedding away, was around him in a C shape - so he was safe. But I panicked when I woke up and saw him there. Just couldn't stop myself nodding off.

Both thinking maybe a side sleeping cot might be the answer as he can be close without the fears associated with cosleeping. He slept OK in hospital in the side cot.

Need something as the first night he didn't sleep at all unless on us - so neither of us slept

Congrats Freddie. I love our Next2Me. Catherine falls asleep on me at night and I put her in the Next2Me when she is sound asleep (I do the arm drop wrestling count out to make sure :rotfl:). She sleeps all night in it. Wish we had it from the beginning. She is still in it at 4 months and will last for a wee while yet! The only thing is the mattress is really hard so might be worthwhile buying a better one if you do decide to get one.

Freddie- have you seen the next to me crib is on offer this week as part of the Emma diaries weekly deals?

We don't have one, I thought we may need to get one, either that of a swinging crib as Sebastian didn't settle the first two nights at home, but we preserved for another night and he now does settle, although I ordered a new mattress as I think he finds his a bit hard.

Hope apart from the difficulty with getting him to sleep that all is going well.
  • We have a next2me... Obviously hasn't used it yet. Didn't know the mattress was hard though.. That's not good.

The bedside ones are quite good because if baby starts stirring etc you can comfort them without lifting them or getting up yourself, you can pop a hand on them to soothe them. Good luck :)

Hi ThinkPink - yes it's just night that's been difficult.

Maybe we're just panicking too early. Obviously to us it feels like forever. I just hate the thought of him getting stressed. It's still early days though. Feels like one very long day to be honest!

Today I'm going to try and get him to sleep in the crib during the day - spend as much calm time as possible in it so he gets used to it.

He's already stayed asleep when I put him in it just now - then he's staying settled even when he's waking up - self soothing with his hands and I'm rocking the crib gently.

Hopefully this'll help with getting him to stay in it a bit longer (more than 30 seconds) at night.

But other than night time we're really loving having him here. He's worth the lack of sleep! So adorable, he's so cute and little but really strong!

He's feeding well, midwife was pleased with him when she visited. OHs stitches are looking good and healing - still very painful though.
