I've seen a couple of Next2Me on Gumtree etc. for much less than RRP which maybe worth checking Freddie.

There's also the bednest which you can hire: http://www.bednest.com/Shop

Maybe works out cheaper than buying one and a mattress etc.

I hope all 3 of you are doing well and baby Fred starts to sleep more at night soon. Has anybody found swaddling helpful? I read so many things that people recommend trying maybe worth a go.

40+2 here and still no sign, due to have the consultant app/scan tomorrow due to baby still not being engaged. I don't know if he's dropped since last week or not, he's definitely changed positions and feels a bit lower but could just be my mind playing tricks on me.
  • Freddie - Is he cold at night? My DD was exactly the same in Moses basket, would sleep in it in the day but not at night, when, after 4 weeks we put her in a baby sleeping bag, she slept like a log!

This reminds me... I read somewhere that sometimes they don't settle because the crib is cold. Maybe try popping a hot water water bottle or wheat bag in the crib to warm the mattress before popping him down?

Possibly. I mentioned pre-warming the crib mattress as a possibility.

However room temp says its cooler in here now than it was last night.

He slept for 1 1\2 hours in the crib this morning. Would have gone longer but I saw him straining and wanted to check his nappy - which did need changing.

One thing we changed as well was adding a light cellular woolen blanket over the top of the crib. It was just an open topped rectangle and fairly big so was worried he might not be feeling very cosy in it.

Pegged the blanket to the top sides and its just acting as a cover over the area behind his head.

He can't pull it down onto himself as its got 13 pegs holding it tight. I cant even budge it without removing the pegs.

But the hope was it would help him feel a bit more secure.

Hi Freddie. Babies are often nocturnal at first so plenty of daylight in the afternoons helps aswell as keeping night feeds in low light with as little interaction as possible. Babies survival instinct is to be close to mum and dad. So making the mattress a little warmer and smelling of mum might help (keeping in mind the sids risk of adding something to the crib perhaps mum could cuddle up to or wear the sheet or cellular blanket some point so it smells of her).

I haven't used a bedside crib but do the sides need to be up when baby is asleep in there? I was considering getting a Sleepyhead and having the option of putting that on the bed next to me with baby. Just remember the phrase that will get you through most things "it's a phase and this too shall pass". These things feel like forever until you suddenly realise they stopped and you can't remember when. :D

Welcome Katy. I was 32 weeks yesterday so exactly a week behind you. I'm now getting very big and uncomfortable. At work and at home I'm struggling to get comfortable and if I lean forward the baby squirms uncomfortably which makes working on my computer interesting. It's a bit scary knowing I could only have 6 weeks left as with my first I went into labour 2 weeks early. So I need to get a move on with decorating and preparation. How are you finding it?

I'm accessorising my daughters bedroom with pink and turquoise accessories, we've already painted her room a nice gray. So if anyone has suggestions of where to look for pink or turquoise curtains, bedding, lightshade, and things for the wall I'd be grateful. I've been on pinterest and seen hiw to use IKEA spice racks as really cheap bookshelves. After that I don't know how much to update the nursery as I doubt we'll have much time.

Hi All, just checking in, had our first growth scan today at 26+3 and our boy is doing well - measuring fine and weighing 2.4lbs now! Have another one booked for 30 weeks (every 4 weeks now they said). Seems an excessive amount of scans when I'm not having any complications but I'll take the extra chances for a look. He really has grown so much since 20 weeks, she said he has little chubby cheeks now!

Freddie hope the little man is settling a bit better and Mrs Freddie is recovering well x

  • Welcome Katy :)

Eek I'm second on the list now... Beckyy dont have the baby too soon, that will make me top!

Had a sneaky extra look at baby this morning, they had switched on the scanner for the lady after me so the consultant just used that instead of the doppler :) I had a quick look then realised I might see something I didn't want to so shut my eyes. He said it was wiggling away like a gymnast... which is weird when I can't really feel it! I just thought we had a very lazy baby!

Back to thinking about names again now. We had sort of decided on two, but then one of them (Isla) is very very popular this year and now I'm not sure... it's more difficult as DH wants a scottish name so our list to choose from isn't exactly unlimited :(
