I had a flu jab with my whooping cough at 25 week appointment last week Freddie, I'm sure she will be fine now, if they were concerned they would fit her in sooner I think?
PP that's good about sorting your ML, I stupidly forget to ask for my MATB1 last week and am now chasing it to pick up so I can sort mine! Faff! xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0 -
I think some surgeries are offering it a couple of weeks early and giving it now Freddie, but most don't roll it out until October. It seems to vary slightly based on area.0

I don't think the flu jab is to pass on protection to the baby like the whooping cough vaccine is Freddie, although I might be wrong. It's because catching flu in pregnancy can be worse, when proper flu is bad enough anyway, due to lowered immune system and potential for complications. As your partner won't barely be pregnant during flu season then her chances of catching it pregnant are low. However was it an appointment with the GP or nurse that you're struggling to get as perhaps you could pay for it at Boots or a local pharmacy if you're worried?
I had only booked for my whopping cough vaccine last week but the nurse took the opportunity to give me the flu vaccine too.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
hi all,
I had the flu jab and whooping cough earlier today - ouch!
still having terrible trouble sleeping at night - tossing and turning and hips keep going sore and stiff. OH keeps saying I should have a week or 2 off on the sick and rest before I end up exhausted but I think I'm going to soldier on and see if it gets any better. I'd love to put a bit of deep heat or tiger balm on my hips but OH consults google for everything these days and apparently its undecided if its safe to use in pregnancy.
Im loving bath time now that baby is moving around more - she seems to love baths too though each time I call OH in to watch she stops!0 -

my midwife said its dangerous to get flu in pregnancy as your body will run a temperature that the baby cant handle and literally boil the baby! probably a scare tactic but I'm not taking any chances!0 -
I keep meaning to phone about my whooping cough jab, the midwife told me to do that weeks ago! oops!
I hadn't heard anything about getting the flu jab but would like to as I had the flu in march and it was awful, just awful! We were TTC at the time and when we had to call the doc out to the house as I couldn't move, I mentioned it to him and he said he hoped I wasn't pregnant as it was very, very dangerous for the baby. As it happened I caught in the April so all was ok but I'd definitely get the jab if it's an option!0 -
I had it but wouldn't worry Freddie, I doubt flu season will really have hit before baby arrives. Otherwise try your local Boots, I had mine done there for free as it was a much more convenient appointment than what my doctor could offer me. I had it although ive only ever had flu once, because I figured if I was getting run down I would be more susceptible to it, and being due in November it'll probably be going round by then. I felt fine that evening but did feel generally pants, achey and sore the following day.Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16

Every time I visit my GP surgery they take the opportunity to vaccinate me for something which saves me making another appointment at least!
Newcook - at my physio session last week they said that hip pain is usually caused by the ball & socket joint getting inflamed so if you cool the area - ice pack just before bed - it might help as it should reduce the swelling and hopefully let it settle down and let you get some sleep - worth a try and definitely not a risk during pregnancy (just bloody cold!)
~Been ripping up carpet and underlay this morning ready for the new stuff being fitted tomorrowCan't wait to get it done as it will make SUCH a difference to how the living room and stairs look - the old carpet was pretty disgusting but we didn't want to replace it while we had plastering and new bathrooms/kitchens going on so it's been here getting grottier and grottier since we moved in! Nice pre-birthday treat for me in the morning :rotfl:

It sounds like your midwife likes scaremongering! A fever can be dangerous in pregnancy but what a way for her to word it.
The flu jag is recommended because when you're pregnant your immune system is more susceptible to things, so it's more likely that you could develop complications from having the flu like a chest infection, pneumonia etc.
I had it last Winter on the midwife's recommendation but should miss it this year unless baby is very late.
I've read that if you've had the vaccination then some imunitites will be passed onto the baby, but that it takes 10-14 days for your immune system to respond to it.
Freddie, if you're worried about catching it and passing it to OH/baby would it be worth you getting it next month instead/aswell?0 -
My GPs surgery are dishing out flu jabs already so worth checking- I was in yesterday for an asthma check and the nurse jabbed me whilst I was there. I work in a hospital so usually get it there, but it's nice to be covered earlier this year as still early days pregnancy wise.0
