Hi!
My last pregnancy was 16 years ago and sweeps just weren't a thing then so it was all new to me this time round. I think they are one of those things that can probably tip you over the edge if your body is almost ready but for many they just seem to cause discomfort and stress that it's not worked. I also don't know my gbs status as I declined testing so I'd rather be left alone down there as much as possible lol.
I probably will accept a sweep tomorrow or Friday to see if we can encourage this little girl out before I have to go for additional monitoring due to being 42 weeks on Saturday.
I've also requested no internal exams in labour unless genuine medical query (like position), they've become so normalised but actually aren't overly useful as dilation doesn't follow a pattern and how dilated you are is open to the opinion of the person doing the exam.
I suppose I'm a little scarred from my first birth, text book induction with pretty much every intervention going bar c section. I'm much older and wiser this time and as soon as we started researching home birth I knew it was what we would aim for. Im a private person and feel much more comfortable in my home with my husband, I like the freedom of movement and not having to travel anywhere. I just think I'll cope better overall.
We hired a doula who also has a pool so we've done our trial run and filling and draining it is pretty easy. It's a nice size too and means I have guaranteed access to a pool now. I'm lucky that my hubby and midwife are 100% behind it too, that makes a big difference.
Thanks for that. I'm sorry that your last labour was so traumatic and I hope it's a much calmer and intervention free experience this time.
I had no sweeps and virtually no internal exams due to giving birth early and coming back in at 9cm and pushing already. So apart from one measurement of dilation a few hours before when I was sent home I had no other interference or internals in tge pregnancy until the end. Unfortunately I can't say the same since but not everyone has the post birth issues I've had. If I can have a similar experience this time then I would be glad. However I'd like to be calmer and not have that awful transfer to the hospital. Also the overnight stay was a horrendous experience that I don't want to repeat. That's why I wanted more info on a home birth (a doula sounds lovely by the way) so i might try to get more info.
Please let me know how it goes as I'm really interested, but only as much as you want to share obviously.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Had my repeat GTT this morning! My midwife couldn't find a vein at the first attempt (thankfully before I'd had the glucose drink and sat round for 2 hours!!) so I was sent to maternity assessment this morning to mooch around for a couple of hours - got me out of work for a bit so I was happy
Perk of working in the lab I've had a peek at my results and all is well! No sign of gestational diabetes, full blood count is all normal and no antibodies found on my group & save :T So far so good!
Yesterday's ridiculous warm weather was not appreciated though - would much prefer it to get cooler and fast! Every time it gets hot and sticky my feet swell up something chronic and I end up dehydrated and get leg cramp in the nightThat's my biggest current pregnancy niggle though so I can't really complain
Hope everyone else is waddling on OK0 -
Hope things are progressing jtr.
I'm struggling a bit tonight, went shopping with my friend today and feeling it a bit now. Lazy day I think tomorrow.I haven't got a room thermometer, I'm sure my monitor has a thermometer built in, but I must double check. I did remember to pick up a batlth thermometer today!!
Hope everyone is coping ok in the heat.x0 -
Anyone struggling in the heat, my midwife advised me age ago to drink 4 litres of water a day. It's tough some days but has definitely eased my headaches and yesterday was the first day the heat really affected me (touch wood)... Consumed more than 5 litres yesterday!

Not enjoying the heat today or yesterday. My ankles were all puffy yesterday and I didn't sleep well last night.
I've got the day off today so have been washing the baby's clothes and hanging them out to dry. Though I feel like I'm melting every time I go out. Don't think I'll get much more done today. Luckily my nephew seems to be happy enough playing with his toys.
I am trying to make sure I drink enough water, not sure I could manage 4 litres though.0 -
I probably drink a couple of litres, but definitely couldn't drink anymore than that. I suffered lots with headaches in the first about 18 weeks, but they have improved although I do seem to get them late at night, but that's due to tiredness and frustration that I can't sleep!!
Thought I was going to melt earlier, I've been so reluctant to wash my hair as I hate then having to dry it in this heat, but couldn't leave it any longer, I was so hot after though!!0 -
Jtr hope things are moving for you, just wondering how you are getting on xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0
