    Welcome Rachel!

I've bought a pack of first size nappies from pretty much each supermarket and some pampers to try before we decide which ones we prefer.

    So, 40+10, still cooking :rotfl:

Saw midwife, declined sweep but she's happy to do one Thursday or Friday if I want one. She's also going to call me once she's spoken to the assessment unit to confirm the plan for monitoring next week if no arrival of madame. Having said that I'm having awful back ache and my plug has gone so I'm hoping something will develop!

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

    Hope things happen soon jtr.

We went to Asda today - Asda Home no less! - hoping to find some baby bargains. They had a lot of stuff but nothing we needed. No sign of ThinkPink's buys - she must have nabbed the last ones! While we were there we popped into Argos to look at room thermometers and saw the GroEgg at reduced price so bought that.

I'm watching it now - mesmerised by the glow - willing the temperature to drop low enough for the colour to change from red. I want the little icon of a frown to turn upside down!

  • Freddie ours is currently bright red and says 24.9... I really don't know how we will keep the baby bedroom cool enough! Our house is a new build so it's thoroughly insulated and our bedroom is on third floor. Even with windows open as soon as we get in from work it's still ridiculous. Didn't spot the sad face though, going to have to check it now!

Ours is red too, it just means you need to reduce babies items of clothing probably just a vest tonight for example.

Ours has never been below 20 degrees!

I think it was me heating it! Moved it further away from me but still away from window and its dropped by half a degree.

    Woo it's gone orange.

I think our room is probably the warmest part of the house

jtr2803 what made you decline the sweep? Not that I have feelings either way about them having never had one. Is it because you want labour to start naturally without any interference?

What made you decide on a home birth and have you hired a pool?I'd be interested in a hone birth but the subject hasn't come up with my midwife and you don't see them very often if it's not your first. I've only seen her once since my scan and I'm now not seeing her until I go on maternity leave.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

    Hi!

My last pregnancy was 16 years ago and sweeps just weren't a thing then so it was all new to me this time round. I think they are one of those things that can probably tip you over the edge if your body is almost ready but for many they just seem to cause discomfort and stress that it's not worked. I also don't know my gbs status as I declined testing so I'd rather be left alone down there as much as possible lol.

I probably will accept a sweep tomorrow or Friday to see if we can encourage this little girl out before I have to go for additional monitoring due to being 42 weeks on Saturday.

I've also requested no internal exams in labour unless genuine medical query (like position), they've become so normalised but actually aren't overly useful as dilation doesn't follow a pattern and how dilated you are is open to the opinion of the person doing the exam.

I suppose I'm a little scarred from my first birth, text book induction with pretty much every intervention going bar c section. I'm much older and wiser this time and as soon as we started researching home birth I knew it was what we would aim for. Im a private person and feel much more comfortable in my home with my husband, I like the freedom of movement and not having to travel anywhere. I just think I'll cope better overall.

We hired a doula who also has a pool so we've done our trial run and filling and draining it is pretty easy. It's a nice size too and means I have guaranteed access to a pool now. I'm lucky that my hubby and midwife are 100% behind it too, that makes a big difference.

psychopathbabble - that sounds fun. Haven't been in a pool for ages, would be fun to see what it feels like. Never thought about it feeling any different.

I've never thought of a room thermometer. It's not something any of the nieces and nephews had! Will keep an eye out for one.

Had 34 week midwife appointment - bump now measuring right on the centre line of average. For OH the fundal height is meant to be 2cm less than the number of weeks.

Anyway that's good, but I knew he was obviously growing fine as you can see clearly that her bump is getting bigger every day. they took bloods to retest her platelets. But said that so long as they stay above 80 then basically it's of no real consequence and won't change how she's treated - they'll just test again after pregnancy to see if they're returning to normal.
