Thinkpink - for me the birth centre (mlu) and the hospital (which has both mlu and normal ward) are pretty much equal distance away. I've chosen the birth centre as it is much more calming. The fact that you may need to be transfered to hospital did cross my mind but the transfer rate at the birth centre is 9% so very low, and if there is a problem then it's dealt with calmly, ambulances are always available, transfer time is 20-30mins. You can ask to visit both places to see them before you decide.
Freddie - sorry OH hasn't had a good MW experience. Luckily I've seen the same nice MW throughout.
Turns out the health visitors do visit before birth here in Wales despite MW saying they don't! One rung me yesterday so is coming at 10am this morning.

Another thing in favour of the birthing unit is they won't let things get to a crisis stage... If there is even a doubt of needing extra care for any reason they will refer you to hospital sooner rather than later and not take any risks.Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16

Freddie - I had the whooping cough vaccine at 28 weeks and both Mia and I are doing great. In fact, she was weighed yesterday (at 10 days old) and is now 7oz over birth weight (now 8lb 6oz). Little boob monster that she is.
I get that my experience is only anecdotal, and not evidence based but thought you might like to hear a positive experience. People only tend to post about negative experiences with these things.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Think it's because it's a very recent thing. 2012 they started doing it. But the studies that have been done showed no sign of any increased risk of complications.
You need to search very specifically to find bad stories and even then there's no definite link between the two. Just people naturally looking for an explanation when something awful happens. Don't blame them at all we did the same with the anencephaly.
Think she's alright about it now. More just concerned about the jab hurting or making her queasy! She's got awful bruising where the midwife took blood last time.
MW also acted very awkwardly when OH showed discomfort - talking as if she was faking it and it couldn't have possibly hurt, being very defensive. The bruising says different. Thing is OH didn't even complain! She just squinted.
At least she shouldn't have to have any more blood tests from now on!Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Well I know my arm felt sore for a few days after but getting the actual vaccine was pretty painless.094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

My arm only hurt in bed the night of my jab, it was in my left arm and I slept on left side. Other than that totally painless. Though I have heard of people who have had painful arms for few days.
Health visitor has been. She seemed nice enough. Gave me a list of local baby groups which is useful, there is a good one about 15mins walk away. She also told me that there is a lady over the road who is 2 wks behind me! Guess she shouldn't have said but it's nice to know that I could have a local new friends IYKWIM. I live on a cul de sac but the road bends before her house so I haven't seen her before, I only really know my immediate neighbours to say hello to.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

Thinking about things in your local area, "Mush" is worth downloading. Mobile app. Let's you put in your details and due date, interests and any new mums or mums to be in the area show up. You can connect and chat and meet up. Handy if you don't know mums locally. I've found quite a few locally due the same time as me so we can have play dates and go to groups together. They seem really nice.
There are 18 mums or due soon within a mile of me who are registered. So guessing most places will have quite a few people using it. Love it.Book a week challenge: 11/52. Competitions won in 2021: 120 -
I am going to speak with my midwife to find out which one is more likely to have an available pool, as the one in the big hospital further away (which is midwife lead but next to main labout ward) has more pools, but they have a lot more births there. I think that will help me to decide. My worry with the smaller mlu is that if something did go wrong and I got rushed to the other hospital is that I would then be on my own for the journey as oh would need to drive his car so that we have it there, but that's the only downside I can think off about that option.
Starting to struggle getting through the days at work now, I could happily go to bed now!!!0 -
Evening all
Very quiet on this thread, hope you are all ok. Gelly - hoping your silence means baby is here and you are enjoying him/her.
Yesterday I felt very emotional, cried a few times for no real reason. I didn't sleep that well so maybe tiredness added to my hormones. We put the wall stickers up in the nursery and I'm so pleased with them, we got alphabet ones with a few animals and stars from JoJo Maman Bebe in the sale.
Also yesterday, me and OH went out for what may well be our last pre baby date night. We went to our favourite Thai restaurant and then for a short walk by the sea.
Today, OH's mum came for lunch. I did the food shop whilst he picked her and his kids up, then we cooked together. But think I overdid it a bit as I'm shattered and my back/hips are hurting. I had a little nap after dinner so feeling a bit better now.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

Oh hopefully you're able to take it easy over the next few days flutter.
I'm struggling to sleep as its just too hot and muggy at the moment, let's Hope the weather prediction of how hot it is going to get this week is incorrect!!
Had quite a late night last night as we went to a small local, i guess you could say one day festival. That's definitely the last thing like that I'll be going to for a while as its taken it out of me today. Plus I've been trying to do more around the house as oh as been doing almost everything as well as a lot of diy and I think it's taking its toll on him. It will be much easier for me when I'm on maternity leave as I can do a bit each day, whereas at the moment I'm too tired to do anything when I get in from work and need to relax at the weekend to save my energy to get me through the week!! Three weeks left at work, but only actually 12 days left at work!! Eeek, it feels very scary now!!0
