  • I have now got a full week of lunch appointments for my first week off. I'm shattered after my first day back at work. Was sick on the way to work and have felt really hot and woozy all day. Think its just tiredness, determined to last the 1.5 days I have left though, don't want to take early maternity.

Khal I love being pregnant and feeling the kicks too, people keep asking if I'm fed up being pregnant yet, I'm really not, can't wait to meet my little one but also pleased to think they are snuggled safe in my tummy!

My consultant appointment has been moved to before my due date, this is to discuss getting induced so I really do hope to go naturally before then.

Consultant appointment this morning, last one luckily. They were running over an hour late for my appointment which was supposed to be at 950, so I didn't get to work until nearly lunchtime. As expected they weren't keen on my planned home birth, the senior midwife who was there was incredulous and demanded to know who had approved it. They wouldn't discuss my alternate hospital birth plan or commit to whether I'd be allowed in the midwife suite if I do go to the hospital, so there's nothing documented in my notes. To try and prevent discussions/arguments on the day I'm thinking of speaking to one of the SOMs to get something documented in advance. It's convinced me that home birth is probably the right choice for us though, I have no confidence that anyone would read or listen to my wishes at the moment, and I don't want to have to debate and discuss while in labour.

Sweetilemon, I'd do some reading about induction prior to next appointment if I were you, I believe high bmi alone is not a reason to recommend induction, which comes with an increased risk of interventions etc. Not saying don't do it or offering medical advice, but my experience has been that they don't always give you all the information in a balanced way so it's good to have done some background reading so you can discuss pros/cons in a more informed way. Xx

  • Thanks Littlemoog I will do. I've been getting my bloods monitored for GD but they have generally been fine. Hoping the growth scan comes back ok tomorrow. I just want to do what's best however I have been healthy throughout my pregnancy so don't want intervention unless necessary. I understand your concerns about not being listened to Littlemoog, my own midwife is great, totally relaxes me about my choices in labour but the midwifes at the antenatal classes have told me completely different information at times. My concern is having to 'fight' to keep mobile and use a birthing ball even though I've been told by my midwife that's fine I've been told otherwise by random midwifes.

How is everyone? I made it - finished work!! My growth scan showed baby is progressing at the right size although my amniotic fluid is low so they are worried I've leaked my waters. Need to go back in a week to get monitored.

dying.. I have a stomach bug. Been up all night, in bed until gone 3pm and eating biscuits!

Why would they be worried? you're due in a few weeks, baby would be absolutely fine if it arrived now (my youngest was 36 weeks and 7lb2.. huuuuge baby!) 37 weeks is classed as term and you're days away.. from 34/35 weeks they don't even need to be in SCBU usually.. fluid can leak and replenish too.

    Gratz on finishing work!

Sweetilemon, I totally agree with Moog. Induction often leads to interventions. Deffo worth looking into other options and remembering that ultimately the decision is yours. Also agree with pigpen. Waters can replenish so don't let it scare you too much.

Moog... I really hope you can sort it out. Remind them that they are providing a service. You should get what you want (within reason ofc).

I went for another scan today. They couldn't get all the measurements around his heart last week. Discovered today that he has fluid around his heart (2mm more than they'd like). So they've sent out a referral to the Heath, should get a letter next week. Pretty much bricking it now. Hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing. Trying not to think about what it could mean.

  • Oh Bamama hope all is ok. I suppose it's best not to over think although I am sure it's easier said than done.

That's awful pigpen hope you feel better soon and manage to keep some food down! Hopefully it'll be shortlived.

To be honest I had suspected I had maybe lost a bit of my waters a couple of weeks ago, my midwife didnt seem too concerned but i wasn't sure although baby is still kicking away and I had read they replenish. As it wasn't constantly leaking I didn't really worry too much. They did say I'd need to get to term and wouldn't confirm baby was in the right position but I very much doubt the next 3 days will be so magical they will make all that much difference. I was more worried about being kept in after working during the day, wanted to be at least showered and clean clothes for going into hospital lol.
