Congratulations hieveryone! A big boy, great news :-)
Me-charlotte it is better to be on the safe side but I agree sometimes it can be over cautious. There's a few times I've wondered if I've felt less movement then waited and it's been back to normal. It's hard to know when it's worth mentioning. I've got my midwife appointment on Monday and have a big bruise on my bump from misjudging my size and walking into a door handle! Oops. It really hurt but the baby has still been kicking so I'm not worried. I have a scan planned for Tuesday anyway.0 -
Littlemoog that sounds incredibly frustrating. As long as you understand the risks and choices are they able to refuse you if it is your choice? Hopefully the MW will be more understanding.0

Strange post but I have about two and a half boxes of boots breast pads that I don't need. If anyone wants them and will pay postage just give me a pm. They'll only go in the bin otherwiseNewly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0

Quick question...sounds silly but what kind of bag are you using for the baby hospital bag? I have a little holdall which will fit my things but not sure if the pram bag will be big enough for the baby things, to get a cheapish bag or if a reusable supermarket bag will be ok. Don't want anything expensive in the hospital but don't want to look silly! I know this is so insignificant I just don't really know what the 'norm' is.
I'm washing the babies hospital clothes, DH thinks it's a bit early to wash the rest. Bought myself a maternity dress for labour/journey to hospital. Couldn't find a suitable nightie so thought this wrap dress would do, cover my modesty if I end up pacing around.
Littlemoog I feel your pain about the time left until maternity! I'm on the countdown too, first day off is 22nd February. As much as I'd love to finish now, I know I'll be thankful the other side.
Nappies.. don't buy stacks.. you don't know what size they will be.. my youngest was 4 weeks early at 7lb 2 went straight into size 2 nappies!! the size 1's contained nothing! The shops are always open and there are always offers on!! I got 2 packs of size 1.. used about 4 in the first 2 days.. it can take a while for them to start going often, and that was it.. the rest went on facebook selling page with the baby clothes. OH got a pack of size 2 on the way to see us the morning after she arrived.
I put baby stuff in my bag.. 4 vests and 4 sleepsuits.. 2 tiny baby and 2 newborn .. she was 4 weeks early so we didn't know what size she'd be. and 2 cardigans a hat a blanket and 3 muslin squares.. they often gurgle up a lot of mucus in the first few days while they clear out the gunk. .. I had a bag at home with 4 more vests/sleepsuits/cardies/muslins in case one of us was ill and we had to stay.. as it was I was home 24 hours after a section.. I put the car seat visible with a bag containing baby's coat and another hat.. first stuff gets a bit bloody.. and I washed everything before they arrived.
Inside my bag I had a carrier with a nappy, a hat.. easy if you end up going quickly to theatre too!.. that is all they put on them at first and wrap them in a warmed hospital towel so you can get that out, give to the MW and they are organised.. first clothes they usually let dad do it after a couple of hours.. so don't fret about those .. there's no rush!

It's so hard to know without a crystal ball pigpen! I've got size 1 nappies and 0-3 is the smallest clothes I've bought, if we need smaller I will send DH.
I collected my pram and car seat today. Also bought a playmat while we were there. All getting so close, feel like these last 5 weeks at work will drag!0 -
Morning all
Sweetilemon, we had a handful of bits in "newborn"/first size, which is smaller than 0-3, and we found we did need them. I'd not bought any but I was given a bag of handmedowns by my sister and my MIL bought a few new things in that size as well. DD was 8lb exactly, so a decent size, and still swamped by 0-3, they're so tiny and curled up when they're new! She was out of the newborn sized things by Christmas when she was about 3-4 weeks.
I got all my newborn baby bits back from my sister yesterday, so feels like we're getting close to having everything we need. Need to check if I still have any spares for my breast pump, and buy bits for my hospital bag etc, and then we still need to get a new changing table and a buggy board, but otherwise I think we're done.
Have calmed down slightly about consultant appointment, will speak to MW this week and ask about home birth, and arrange a meeting with SOM if that is the route we want to go down. It's definitely what I'd prefer, but DH is twitchy about transfer time as although we're not far from the hospital, the route there gets gridlocked at busy times. Sweetliemon - my understanding is that they can't refuse you a home birth (can't force you to go to hospital!), although they need to make sure you've understood the risks, and that they have to send someone to attend you when you go into labour. I have heard stories of people ringing in labour and being told there's no midwives, so they've had to go in or had paramedics sent instead. TBH I've not got my heart set on it, but I think it might be the best option for a calm, no interventions birth, the opposite of my last experience!Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Hi ladies
It's funny how we're all different - I have my heart set on an elective section this time as will therefore know when baby is coming and everything will be expected (as much as it can be) including my recovery after. I'm so impatient for next Wednesday to get my date. Saw mw this morning and she reported a "very happy baby who is back to back". She also said my local hospital do electives daily so may well end up with a valentine's baby after all!
I don't mind when baby comes, just so long as baby is safe and healthy.
I think we're pretty much done - just waiting on delivery of new carseats for baby though I do have one I could use if baby decided to arrive now. Apparently the manufacturer has been doing a stock take so delivery has been delayed.
I feel absolutely rotten today with a bad head cold. Fingers crossed it doesn't go to my chest but all I fancy doing is going back to bed and DD just wants me to play with her. Feel like a rotten mother today - she's busy playing puzzles at the moment and I've promised she can watch some movies later on.
Re clothing sizes, I bought 0-3 last time and 2 newborn babygrows. She was just over 4kg so not small, and really the 0-3 were too big for her initially; it took just over 2 weeks before she stopped looking drowned in them. However, am reusuing the same first clothes again this time. I did use size 1 nappies initially, but can't remember how long for before I went into size 2s. I do know by 12 weeks she had outgrown the moses basket as I had to move her into her own room then. This time have hired a co-sleeper which may last slightly longer but also gives baby a safe space beside me for the mornings when DD comes in for a cuddle.0 -
I think I might need to get a couple of newborn items then. I've chosen the smallest baby grows for my hospital bag for now. I've bought a shnuggle moses baskets which I believe is slightly bigger than the standard size so hopefully that'll do for a while. I've bought the cot just not got the mattress yet.
Do people usually use a fitted sheet for the pram? Will need to source one, it looks a bit bare without. Also my isofix has a diagram on how to put the seatbelt into it, thought this was the whole point, no seatbelt is required? I assume it's just an extra safety procaution.
Hope you get on ok Littlemoog. I've got my MW appointment this afternoon then a growth scan tomorrow.0 -
P.S. hope you feel better soon saffagal. A movie day is a good idea, it can give you a little rest! Sounds promising with getting a date for your section. IKWYM everyone is different, I'd rather do everything to avoid a c-secton but I suppose the added control of timings is appealing.0

I did this, as from family history I thought I'd have a large baby. I also had one 'newborn' size babygrow, no idea how I came to have it but I popped it in the bag anyway. Baby came out a tiny 6lb 6oz, and lived in a HUGE 0-3 vest and my one and only newborn babygrown until dad came via tesco the next morning (a Sunday, typically!). It was fine though. Baby couldn't wear the 0-3 as he could wriggle down in to them, covering his face. I felt like a bad mum for not providing him with appropriate clothes, but he'd taken me by massive surprise!
I'm using moses basket sheets for my pram, they fit well and I have loads of them, both fitted and non-fitted. I also put a muslin/ terry square under it so I won't have to wash the mattress cover every time he is sick. The schnuggle moses basket looks lovely.
Yeah you can use a seatbelt with isofix if you like, but you don't need to.
Saffagirl, I hope you feel better soon. If we ever have a second (and based on this birth I don't think I can go through it again) I'll be requesting a section, at least it's a known risk.
Littlemoog- I hope you get the home birth you want, and not just because they have to give it to you but because they are supportive.
First day home alone with bubba, daddy is at work. So far it's going ok, got 3 hours sleep! Hopfully the rest of the day will be as good.0
