Rambosmum, do the asda ones have wetness indicator like pampers do? I found that so helpful as to start with their output isn't a huge amount at all!

I honestly hadn't noticed the pampers one (or the asda one) but yes they do.

Just a quick thing about nappies, I personally wouldn't buy loads before baby is born, just enough to get you through the first week or so, 2-3 packs. Not only do you not know how big baby will be but also certain brands may not suit your baby. Plus if you breastfeed baby will have more 'explosive' poos which will leak everywhere and you may want to try a few brands to see if anything fixes this! My little girl was 9lbs3 when born so technically could've gone straight in to size 3 nappies which start at 9lbs! She is now 6 weeks and I used up my supply of size 1 (3 packs) then went straight into my supply of size 2 (3 packs) and then brought size 3.

    Sorry for a nappy ramble!

re exploding nappies up the back, I found this more of an issue when A was a little older. The only nappies I found that had an elasticated bit across the back which helped inhibit the spread were the Sainsbury's ones.
Huggies are elasticated across the back, but are no longer stocked here (used them when I was abroad).

Lol the things you discuss when you have a baby and pregnant - not things you ever thought you'd discuss before!

My little one had at least one explosive nappy every day whilst breastfed. She is now on formula and we haven't had any! I primarily use Sainsburys as I find them to be one of the best and one of the cheapest. But all babies are different and it's about finding what works for you.
  • Hi All,

I've just realised I've not posted on here in ages! I stopped working a month ago now and am very bored. My parents in law were with us for 4 weeks over Christmas and New Year - they left us on Saturday. the house now seems soooo empty and it feels like I'm finally beginning my 'maternity leave' (I'm self-employed so have no office to return to :)). My mother in law, in particular, has been so helpful. My clothes have never been ironed so much and my kitchen has never been so clean as when they were staying! I only wish they didn't live on the other side of the world.

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and will be having this baby by c-section next week due to Baby being quite big, like the last 3 (already 8lb 5oz/3.77kg at 36 weeks ). I really had to push for the c-section this time and I had to have the GTT twice because they just can't believe baby is so big for no other reason than I just happen to grow big babies. I'm not diabetic, BTW. My levels were well within the normal range - 4.6 at the start and 6.6 two hours after drinking the glucose mixture.

I can't do much as my SPD is very bad and I'm shuffling everywhere due to not being able to lift my feet very much when I walk. Sleeping is incredibly difficult at this stage due to being in so much pain, but I keep reminding myself it's all part of the journey to get my beautiful baby.

I now have everything I need and Baby's bag is 100% packed, while mine is 99% packed - just need to put a few more toiletries in there before we go to hospital.

I'm stressing out now because my mum is coming up to get the older 3 children ready for school and take them to school on the day I go into hospital but I swear it's like having another baby already! My 12 year old goes to high school on the bus, so isn't a problem. The younger 2 go to primary school and, despite having gone there several times, my mother still asks for directions every time she comes up here. It drives me mad! I hate moaning about her as I know she's helping a little but more often than not she's quite a hindrance. She never offers to make anyone a cup of tea or coffee or even to help with food, etc. but gets upset if we don't offer her a cup of coffee, despite her having just made one for herself not 10 minutes previously. Over Christmas, I could have cried! She didn't help at all with dinner, then moaned that the vegetables were cold and refused to eat any of the turkey or ham. Then when we were discussing what we were going to do with the left over meat, she said she would take it home with her!! My mother in law was, quite rightly, fuming and I'm sure it took all her energy not to say something at the time - especially as my mother in law had paid for half the food for Christmas and I paid for the other half!

I've said to her that I need her help while she's here but I know it won't happen, so I've resigned myself to the fact that she will be leaving before I get home from the hospital. I know DH is more than capable of looking after the children, but it's the other practical things that I'm thinking of, like making sure the laundry is done. Oh the things we worry about :rotfl:.

Sorry for the long rant, but I just had to vent somewhere. I've been trying very, very hard to be positive as I know the stress is just not worth it most of the time.

Oh boy, I remember the explosive breastfed nappies! DD3 dirtied every single nappy she wore, so we went through a lot. Luckily we used cloth nappies, so it wasn't an extra expense. I've had to get new cloth nappies this time round, but it's still cheaper than disposables as I now have all the nappies I will need until Baby is potty trained.

I had no clue what size to buy in disposables or how many as I'm using disposables in hospital. I had to ask my mother in law, who is a midwife, how many I will need :rotfl:. She is a great source of knowledge, especially for hospital stays, as she's a hospital midwife. I don't ask for specific advice about me as she's this baby's grandmother, not midwife. However, if I'd had an emergency while she was here, I know she would have stepped up and her professional side would have taken over.
  • Oh, third post in a few minutes. I'm on a roll!

I'm hoping to get the pushchair and travel cot out this week, so the animals can get used to the new equipment in the house. Whilst it was lovely having my in laws here, we've not been able to get things ready as we just didn't have the space while they were here.

I am sooo looking forward to next week :D

Learning so much from this nappy chat! I might need to stock up more, i've only bought 1 size1 pack of 42 pampers so far. Thought this would do the hospital as we have morrisons close by now but might get a couple more.

Michbright I would end up saying something to my mum, how frustrating! At least it sounds like your MIL is supportive.

Quick question...sounds silly but what kind of bag are you using for the baby hospital bag? I have a little holdall which will fit my things but not sure if the pram bag will be big enough for the baby things, to get a cheapish bag or if a reusable supermarket bag will be ok. Don't want anything expensive in the hospital but don't want to look silly! I know this is so insignificant I just don't really know what the 'norm' is.

I'm washing the babies hospital clothes, DH thinks it's a bit early to wash the rest. Bought myself a maternity dress for labour/journey to hospital. Couldn't find a suitable nightie so thought this wrap dress would do, cover my modesty if I end up pacing around.

Littlemoog I feel your pain about the time left until maternity! I'm on the countdown too, first day off is 22nd February. As much as I'd love to finish now, I know I'll be thankful the other side.

I have a small weekend suitcase for myself (on wheels) and for LO, last time I used the boots changing bag but this time have used a NafNaf changing bag I was given last time as I know I'll be in 2 nights and have a couple of presents for A in baby's bag. Last time I had a carrier with extra bits for baby already packed at home that OH brought in after it became apparent we'd be in for two nights.

Mine is a wheelie bag so I don't have to carry anything and it makes it easier when we leave hospital for OH to manage.

Morning ladies :) Hope everyone is doing ok!

Re: bags for hospital, last time I packed a holdall for me, and baby's things in my changing bag. I think I probably had far too much stuff, but as I had to stay in 2 nights and it was all a bit of a blur, I'm glad I had too much as sending DH home for things would have been a pain as he was all in a bother about everything as it was! We're still not decided if we're going for a home birth or trying to access the MLU, but no matter what I'll have a bag packed so everything is in one place if we need to transfer. Consultant appointment tomorrow so I'm going to show them my birth plan and discuss home birth with them. Not expecting them to be positive, but hoping to be able to negotiate MLU access instead ;)
