We had our first hypnobirthing class last night, it was really nice. A bit more antenatal than I was expecting, but we had a really good discussion about attitudes to women and birth etc. There's just 3 couples so it's quite cosy :) Need to read my book and do my homework over the weekend!

Littlemoog are the hypobirthing classes on the NHS? If no can I ask how much they are? I would like to do it but when I Googled it they were a fortune. I'm going to the general antenatal classes, starting in a couple of weeks.

HI Sweetilemon, no these are private classes. The lady teaches the Wise Hippo program, and it's £150 for 4 sessions. I know it's a lot, but we're not having to buy much for this baby as we have so much from DD. Plus I really really want to avoid a csec this time round, and this seems like a good tool to have, at least I'll feel like I've tried everything!

If you want to try hypnobirthing but don't want to do the classes, there are some good CDs you can buy - Maggie Howell's ones are supposed to be good and only about £20 I think. I felt like if I got the CDs it might be hard to commit to, I'm still working full time and pretty knackered dealing with DD as well, and with the classes DH comes too and gets a good understanding of what I'm trying to achieve etc. I feel really positive about it. been reading my book tonight and got all the MP3s loaded on my phone ready to practice :)

Thanks Littlemoog, I have heard great things about it and would love to do it. Might look at getting the CDs as we've had a lot of big expenses with the new house and it being my first baby I just feel it's been spend spend spend. With maternity approaching and hoping to take the full year I think it might be a bit much. I really don't want a c section either. I love the theory around hypobirthing it makes so much sense.
  • I have the Maggie Howells cd's (cheaper to download from iTunes than buy CDs) and it's great. Try to listen most nights in bed. Now going to ramp up my efforts and try to do more during the day. i don't have her book but one from mary Mongon (think that's her name). That is good too. I just need to right down a small list of the exercises and breathing techniques, kind of like a crib sheet so I can do them in labour.

    Hope everyone is ok.

    Any signs yet hieveryone?

Nothing here. Baby is 3/5 engaged, some back pain for the last couple of weeks but nothing else. Has actually gotten easier in the last couple of weeks as baby has dropped but soooooo ready for the little one to come now. Phone calls and texts everyday asking if I'm ok, how far oh is from home...driving me nuts already and still have 10 days to due date!!

You're getting so close devildolly5! Hope everything is ok with you hieveryone.

I'm going to pick out the baby clothes for the hospital tomorrow and start packing. It's so hard to know what to pack not know how long I'll be in or what size the little monkey will be! I dont want to take anything too good in as ive heard of stuff going missing, and had experience of losing stuff in hospitals before. I've got a growth scan on 19th January (have I mentioned this? Please someone say if I repeat myself on this board - baby brain lol) have said to OH not to bother with a day off, he was at the other 3 scans (early, 12w and 20w), I'd rather him save AL for the baby being born! Still don't know what sex it is and would rather keep it a secret so hopefully it won't give the game away!

He's done a great job painting the house, it is starting to look like a lovely family home.

If anyone remembers me talking about my (best at the time) friend d a while back, I stopped chatting to her because of how horrible she was being about me being pregnant (she has been trying for some time), I sent her a christmas card and didn't get one back. It's probably for the best as she was really upsetting me but it's so sad it's split our friendship up. My other friend has been trying for some time and although I know she finds it hard, she has been great and very supportive, wishing us well. No point to this other than a little update and a reflection of the situation.
I've started leaking colostrum, wasn't expecting that so early! Hopefully won't be too much before the baby is born.

I had my GTT last week, should get the results at my next midwife appointment in a couple of weeks unless anything is wrong and then they will call me. It wasn't as bad as I thought but time did drag even with a book to read.

I've had a few baby bits I've ordered turn up too which is exciting. I think the only large item I need to purchase now is a new bed for my son so we can re-use his cotbed.
Once we've got that and rearranged the bedroom we can start stocking up on neccessities like nappies etc
  • Sweetilemon and kroberts, exciting times with buying baby bits.

Hips hurt, up again at 2am. Currently watching Sherlock whilst looking enviously at oh snoozing away....
  • Hello All, hope everyone is well.
Sleep is fast becoming a problem for me, I find i'm either being woken because my hips are hurting or like this morning at 3am for no reason what so ever, i'm shattered today at work but will soldier on.

I got a cotbed the weekend and ordered a crib for our bedroom, but (and i may sound a bit stupid here!!) what sort of bedding do i need for them, they come with mattresses but apart from fitted sheets for the mattress is it just blankets??

I'm really starting to feel out of my depth in regards to what i need :huh:

You can either use blankets, or a baby sleeping bag. We used a blanket for the first few weeks, and then moved to a grobag when she was big enough (they need to be large enough that they couldn't wiggle down inside and get it over their face), we had one with newborn poppers to make the armholes smaller so she wore it from about 4 weeks.

I feel for you with the sleep, last night was the first time in a week I've not been up multiple times with reflux, meds finally seem to be kicking in! I had terrible insomnia when I was pregnant with DD, not had it much so far thank goodness.

I'm exhausted this morning, despite a quiet weekend at home. 8 weeks left to work, and I'm wondering if I should bring my finish date forward a week. It messes up my plans at the other end though, as I wouldn't have enough holiday to take all of December off so I'd have to come back to work before Christmas :o Waiting for HR to confirm how much holiday I'll have, as I'm dropping to part time hours on my return, and then I can book some days off to have short weeks at least. I was hoping to have a quiet couple of months, but we've got loads of labwork on which I really need to be involved with :(
