  • Sweetilemon and kroberts, exciting times with buying baby bits.

Hips hurt, up again at 2am. Currently watching Sherlock whilst looking enviously at oh snoozing away....

devildolly - When I saw you'd posted in the middle of the night, I wondered if there was a baby on the way! :p :rotfl:

Still no news 'ere either - baby is apparently 3/5 engaged but other than the usual aches and pains to be expected at well, 39 weeks tomorrow () there doesn't seem to be any sign of anything happening anytime soon...

Hi ladies :) Hope that you're all ok this morning.

I feel for you with the insomnia; I have never suffered before in my life but now am struggling with this 3 or 4 times a week.

Re bedding for baby, we did the same as littlemoog - blankets initially and then as soon as she was big enough, into a baby sleeping bag. Will do the same this time. A slept better once in the sleeping bag, I think because there was no temperature change when I put her down as there was with the blankets. I used sleeping bags with her until she was nearly two and a half when I introduced a duvet and gave her the choice each night until removing the sleeping bags altogether (necessary as we toilet trained and she couldn't manage the sleeping bag on her own).

Littlemoog, don't drop your hours until your return as that way you'll accrue full time AL. I did this last time actually - went back onto payroll full time hours (taking accrued AL), then reduced my hours on my actual return to work. Hope that there are bits you can delegate to enable you not to have to spend too long on your feet at work.

sweetilemon and kroberts, have fun buying your baby bits! I'm a bit envious but cannot justify it. I'm treating baby to a new outfit that A will choose (and will be her present to baby) but otherwise don't need to get anything apart from another car seat (which should be delivered this week).

I can't remember how many size 1 nappies we used last time and it's really bothering me! I have bought 3 small packs and know I need more but just can't think.

Some of baby's movements are getting really uncomfortable now and quite painful. Still, not long to go now.

I'm finding it a bit stressful with the news of the doctor's strikes - my next consultant appt is when I'm 36+5 and is on the 27th Jan, when the second strike is scheduled for. Am due to get my c-sec date then and knowing how busy the clinic gets, am dreading them cancelling me and not being able to be seen in time to get booked in.

Good luck to all those who's babies are imminent x

I do slightly wish I didn't have so much to buy, I got rid of all my son's bits 5 years ago as I said I wasn't having anymore haha things change, it is exciting choosing bits again though.

I have no idea how many nappies either, I was trying to think that at the weekend. I remember changing sizes quite quickly though so might get more size 2 than 1.

I hope your appointment goes as it should.

Sadly the way our maternity policy works, if you change your hours before you've been back at work for a year you have to repay a portion of the enhanced pay. My maternity pay will be adjusted from week 27 to reflect my new pro-rated salary. If not, I'd have to repay the difference. As my DD starts school in Sep 2017, I'd need to adjust hours then anyway, so we've decided I'll return part time from maternity leave, to make it easier with tax/pension etc. We do have an amazing maternity package though, we're very lucky, so I'm not complaining!

Nappies - I reckon you use about 10 a day for the first few weeks, as they tend to poo so often! We had several large packs of size 1s, and then DD went into washables at about 5 weeks, so not sure when I would have moved her to size 2. I've been given a few packs of size 1 by a friend, but will probably pick up a couple more before baby comes.

  • Hi all,

Just wanted to say about nappies. Baby is 12 days old and we're on the 4th pack of nappies! He's 8lb 1 weighed this morning, and is fitting well in size 1. Not sure if thats helpful at all, but gives an idea.

Bedding wise, im using blankets, cellular ones. I used a sleeping bag for dd, not from birth though, but only used blankets for ds. Not sure what we'll do this time yet.
Still here..... but working on that!
  • another stupid question......
Just looking at the hospital bag list and why do you need Vaseline for the first poo??

If you put it on baby before their first poo it should help prevent the sticky meconium from sticking so much to the skin.

If you don't get to the meconium poop almost immediately then it sticks to their bum like tar and you practically have to scrub it off, poor things.

Baby is 9 days old and we are about halfway through pack 2 of nappies. (40ish in a pack). Size one are roomy at the mo, but I did have a tiddler.

Tip- if you have a small baby, pampers size 1 are more roomy than asda ones- the asda ones have more elastic round the leg holes, making for a better fit for scrawny legged bairns!

Rambosmum, do the asda ones have wetness indicator like pampers do? I found that so helpful as to start with their output isn't a huge amount at all!

Thank you ladies for the comments re nappies - think I'd better pick up a couple more packs of 1s.

Littlemoog, my DD also starts school Sept 2017 which is why I'll return to work on my current hours even though I think it will be a real challenge with two little ones, especially for DH having to drop them both to nursery at least an hour after I've left the house, and once I have a better idea of her school hours will adjust my working hours as am only allowed to make one adjustment in a 12 month period.
