My hips kill me at night and I find it very laborious having to turn over, I've got a back support pillow that I wedge under my hip, then I have my dreamgenii wrapped round the other side of me, and I find that helps the hip pain, but it really makes it a royal pain when I wake up in the middle of the night and have to turn over because I have to remove everything, then turn, then put everything back again! I often end up accidentally elbowing OH in the face which he is becoming thrilled about, as you can imagine :D

I might try the silk pj thing but I think that would make me too hot :(

Lol i keep accidently (honest) beating up DH in the night. With the maternity pillow i usually wake up with it wrapped around me in all sorts of awkward ways and have to wrestle it off me just to get up to go to the loo several times a night.

True about the overheating in silk/satin - if i get desperate enough and can find something cheap i will probably try it though. I'm not going to fork out lots of money for a tent sized nightie to only wear it for a few weeks, although at the rate i'm growing i could possibly sell it to the RAF as some sort of huge parachute and earn a profit! :p
  • My maternity pillow is a godsend but it literally traps me in during the night!! Makes it even worse as well because we are living at OHs parents right now, in a very small bedroom with our kingsize bed which has to be up against one wall (or the door doesn't open!), and we sleep a strange way round in that OH is on the side where you can just get out of bed, and I sleep on the other side wedged up against the wall. So during the night when I wake up to go to the loo I have to wrestle myself out of the pillow, then clamber over OH to get out of bed!! And we have blackout blinds in the room much to my annoyance (don't get me started) so when I wake up in the night it is literally pitch black so 9/10 times I end up whacking OH in some way or another. Oops.....

I think OH and I might have to switch sides and he might just have to be very careful clambering over me to get out of bed!!

My baby belly is really big though (well it's average when they measured it but to me it seems huge!) so I'm already struggling to be comfy at night, I assume this will only get worse! And if I try sleeping slightly propped up the baby doesn't like this and she kicks me until I move, bloody cheek!!!

2cm smaller is totally normal, Im often 3 smaller -(if the midwife is measuring - if the dr measures Im normally 1 under). But Ive put on er 31 pounds which Ive just looked up is 14kg! But having said that I am very petite and I think youre supposed to put more on in that case, I also know some of the weight has just gone around my bum has nothing to do with the baby lol, and Im always reading about some people loosing weight in pregnancy without even trying so if youre only 2cm under and the babys head is in your rib, they must be a pretty good size! So hopefully youll be able to go to the MLU.

Im not that brave though, my MLU is in our hospital.

You might be lucky though - the baby might turn and youll get it clarified at the scan.

Thanks for the reassurance. I remember you talking about how your problems with the measuring!

Last night baby seemed to flip to transverse, and was playing with us sticking a foot out every time we prodded!
Now this morning, a definate large round bit at the top of bump :( But seems to have moved a little since I got to work though.

So who knows!! Looking forward to seeing baby again at the scan monday, but got a feeling this little monkey has not finished moving yet!

cllola I feel your pain re spaghetti junction! I live in south Birmingham and still sometimes take the wrong exit off the m6 southbound at speghetti!! We've lived here all my life and my mum still refuses to go on there. :D

I liked the sola too and was tempted with some of the end of line offers before the new one came out. Then I got a good deal on the oyster second hand. Sounds like you got a good deal sunshine.

I have a silk nightie but just realised now I hadnt thought about the fact I probably actually wouldnt fit it in anymore :rotfl:There goes that plan!

Ive also stopped wearing pj bottoms as too hot in the night now, and wearing shorts.

I bought a dream genii for £5 off someone but found it a pain and find just using a normal pillow under my bump and between my knees is better and easier to manoeuvre in the night!

Its just such a horrible pain.

MSA - Swapping sides sounds like a good idea! Although you will be moving shortly am i right? at least whatever you do you wont have to put up with it for too long!

Sijou - Your baby sounds like a right little wriggler! i have a hard lump at the top of my bump too but i cant work out whether it is a head or a bum!

I live in leicester and have always point blank refused to drive to or around Birmingham since a very unpleasant experience trying to find the sealife centre years ago. Didnt have much choice this time though!

cllola I learnt to drive in b'ham city centre!! My instructor used to pick me up from aston uni and then we'd head back to my folks!

its weird how much we get used to the "right" side of the bed! I cant sleep on OH's side at all!

  • Aw Lushlifesaver I know how you feel except you're much sooner than me!! When are you starting your maternity surely it must be soon?

I was due to finish on Friday 14th March but I've just this minute emailed the chief exec asking for 3 extra days (from annual leave allowance) as I'd rather finish on the Tuesday as I have some events and loose ends to make sure are tied up so will finish on Tuesday 11th March - something oddly more satisfying about finishing on a Tuesday too :P

Today isn't so bad, had a slightly better night's sleep and I can walk a bit easier. My hips at the late night training last night were hell and by the time we were loading the car I kept getting twinges in one side which buckled me over for a couple of seconds.

I wanted a maternity pillow for ages but it wouldn't have fit in the bed with me and bf so on one hand I'm glad I've made do with normal pillows. Right now however I wish I had one to prop myself up with...swings and roundabouts.

Still not too nervous about the birth - feel like I should be getting a lot more worked up! The only thing is I'm not sure how I'll start as in waters breaking and straight in to contractions or little contractions that gradually get closer/more regular etc. I'm not a fan of the unknown!

We are doing our birth plan with the midwife next Tuesday and at the minute it goes:
    * no epidural
    * if I *have* to have a C-section I'll have a spinal but we want time for bf to transfer chairs (has been told he'll only be allowed in to theatre in an nhs wheelchair - he wasn't impressed!)
    * baby wiped down before skin to skin
    * injection for the final stage
    * no junior doctors - sorry I know they will have been trained but I only want experts down there!
    * In a dreamland I'd have no tearing or episiotomy but I know that's not possible to guarantee ... don't know enough to say any more than that though

I'd quite like to be in and out in a few hours all being well...that's all we've packed for haha. Could manage a day but after that would have to send someone home for more stuff!

That reminded me of something we learnt at nct about c-sections, she said if you did end up having a crash section, the dad is likely to just get left whilst obviously they rush to sort you out, but don't worry they will come back for him, so make sure the Dad doesn't go anywhere.

She said one lady's husband was panicking so went off I think to make a phone call but then when they came to get him, he'd disappeared and they couldnt find him for a while so he missed out on seeing some stuff & obviously his wife was wondering what on earth was taking him so long! So she said just stay put and don't wander off anywhere! :)
